I have a 456 with an XT crankset which suffers from chainsuck a bit, I don't fancy taking a hammer or g-clamp to the chain stay though.
As my BB sounds like it on its death bed I thought about getting one of those new Saint BB's which have longer bearing cup threads and using three spacers on the drive side to move the chainrings further from the chain stay, and no spacers on the non-drive side.
Other than slightly moving the chainline out, would this actually work?
Surely changing the chain line will not fix chainsuck? That tends to be caused by worn out chainrings and chain. (I would also be a bit concerned that if you put 7.5mm of spacers between the cup and the shell, there will not be enough threads to take the load, and you might knacker the threads in the shell over time.)
I suppose it might fix the chainsuck (or stop it involving the chainstay) but guess it would stress the driveside threads more (as the bearing will be moved out)
It's a shame this chainsuck business esp for pricey frames (all those Hummer complaints) - it's the major potential benefit of brant's new frames I reckon, at least til someone starts making lightish bikes designed for 150mm hubs and wider BBs
yep - its more to avoid the chain getting stuck as it did previously, i should really buy one of those chain lenght checkers
tf - TBH i think i'll still give it a go, its only a cheap 456 frame
i see raceface have also started making BB's with longer threads as well
repair/repalce relevant transmission components.
