Looking for a recommendation for a non-beach holiday in France this year. Family is 16 year old very capable rider, three younger brothers, happy enough to descend on easy trails, and 43+ mum and dad.

Any recommendations where there’s a reasonable amount of something for everyone?

Second question would be – take own bike, or hire there (for the 16 year old)? He has a Canyon Nerve so not exactly DH spec…

We’ve been to Les Gets a few times with children. The riding was OK for a (competent) 9 year old and there’s a nice pump track on the village. Let your children play with power tools afternoon is Tuesday IIRC. Ropes course in the trees, swimming lake. Very child friendly / welcoming village.
Nearby Morzine and Avoriaz have pools and there’s a luge in Morzine.

We’ve also done Annecy which is a nice holiday in the hills. Easy flat Tarmac cycle path along the lake and very picturesque.

Morzine is always my tip. Great for mixed groups of riders ands loads of other stuff to do. More here:

    Family holiday, Alps, summer biking

Family Alpine Holiday help needed! (moon on a stick content?)

No need for a downhill bike, its similar riding to here just more of it and a lift. The bike (and rider) will take a pounding so a DH bike will be more forgiving but a good all mountain bike will let you see more of the trails.
