It’s not even that nice. So what makes somebody pay that kind of money?

I really like watches and I’m a huge fan of Clint Eastwood but even if I had the money, I wouldn’t spend that kind of dosh on one his timepieces.

How can this be worth so much to somebody?

I always say that even if I won £100m or so on the Euromillions, I wouldn’t spend more than £10k on a watch.

I know it’s massively subjective but crikey.

You’ve come to the right place.

    It’s Paul Newman’s BTW.

and if you won 500 million, or had more. Prices are all about somebody who has more money than sense

    Dag.

I know it was Newman’s watch. I was just trying to draw a parallel with an actor I admire.

It’s too subjective to discuss objectively I suppose 😕

It’s all about context. Newman is synonymous with the Daytona.

While Rolex Daytonas were once very uncool, the combination of Newman (cool), Rolex (cool*) and an ongoing asset boom driven by quantitative easing has meant that the Daytona is now sufficiently popular that a new one will command a premium over RRP and a lengthy waiting list.

This watch’s role isn’t that of timekeeper but expression of a certain era measured in the allure of a golden age of Hollywood and cheap money.

*Not to me, but then I only wear a Seiko…..

My friend told me her son just spent £5500 on a watch and he’s an electrician.
    Minted they are.

Most I have spent is £100

But you have to take it out of your pocket when you want to know the time when out.

Also if you want to check the time when talking to someone you can have a cheeky look at your watch without appearing rude.

You might think that you can.
