I have a Trek 1500 from 2005, standard alloy frame and carbon forks

The bits and pieces on it are pretty much coming to the end of their life and I was thinking of buying a groupset for it as a Winter/training bike

Question is: are road frames very susceptible to work hardening? And – I guess more importantly – is there much risk with the forks as they get older?
Anyway, if the frame breaks, I think it has a life-time warranty but the forks are a scary thought

I doubt you’d work harden an aluminium frame! As for fatigue, my alloy cross frames are 12 seasons old and only just started getting a bit whippy. Forks should be fine under normal use

dont think age is an issue.

    milage + conditions more relevent

my road frame+forks going to retire soon , corrosions getting to it. front hub snapped tuther week and the forks are creaky but they have done a power of miles.

equally i know of old carbon cadexes that have done <500miles over their life….
