Got a biker black leather jacket but it's all stiff and new. Are there any quick ways to age and soften it?

For proper biking leather you can get in the bath with them – never done it myself though!

The best way is just to wear it a LOT and not wash it for a few years. Enjoy seeing the cracks and creases appear and celebrate when you stop noticing.

To make it less squeaky you can use nikwax (makes it smell though), surf wax (carnuba) or silicone 'specialist' lube. Of the three, silicone is the easiest to apply but makes the leather slippery. The surf wax is the option I'd go for, using it on the elbows and shoulders, leaving the rest.

If you want it just softened up so it is less stiff then you can roll it up when not wearing it. This does give it unnatural creasing though.

There is no substitute for real ageing. If you try and make it look older you'll just make it look like you're trying to hard as you won't put any scuffs in the right place for normal wear and tear.

I've got a flying jacket that's taken the best part of 20 years to look reasonably beaten up

Either that or buy a motorcycle ride about in all sorts of rubbish weather and crash a few times, that'll remove the new look of your jacket
