Rode Afan today with the wife a nice pootle round on the singlespeeds. Someone’s been busy with the chainsaw! A lot of landscape changes since the last time I was there. And to the guy 8:50 in, I do hope you moved your bike before you had someone off!

They’ve got light sabres in, just forgot to charge the batteries up so wouldn’t work!

Nice vid. Afan is my local so its interesting seeing someone else ride it. You certainly took an interesting line through the boulders at Darkside but I guess that was forced on you by the stalled riders. Never tried rolling off the first one anyway.
Looks like it was a wet one. So many of my Afan vids have been spoiled by mud splatts on the cam. Cheers for posting I enjoyed it.

Looking forward to a planned Afan weekend next spring. Never done any of the south Wales centres…. Hopefully we’ll not come across any idiots leaving their bikes in the middle of a trail on a blind corner (or people riding around with daft bars 😉 )

Is it me or the Camera angle, but it appears that you turn into the corners late? Always looks close to the outside of the trail edge.

Don’t mean to be critical, just an observation.

I’m guessing that it’s because entering wide, exiting tight is faster.

    I couldn’t possibly say Stu.
Afan is in South Wales, yes.
Camera Angle probably?? I don’t know, never noticed.

He has to so that he doesn’t catch his wok on the inside of the corner.

    Very good enjoyed that.
Not been there for a few years but thought I recognised the wall and whites so was a tad confused. Didn’t realise there was a W2 trail 🙂

Why do you ride so slowly?
It’s people like you that give singlespeeding a bad name.

You sound like a **** to me.
You can’t go round insulting people like than unless you have something to back it up with.

jesus ! do you speed those up, or what ? (think I need to get a bit lot fitter – I’m literally half your pace on the pedally bits like that slightly uphill boardwalk. No bloody way could I do the climbs on a SS either 😯 )

    (sorry jeff, I’m not worthy)

Sorry SP I wouldn’t know how to speed them up, still new to this video stuff. I can make people look quicker than they are with proper old skool photos though 🙂

    Christ ! 😳

I said to my mate, there were several “jumps” that were ridiculously placed (for me) at the end of flat sections or even short rises that I was just wheezing up to and then rolling over (end of that boardwalky bit of the “energy” run, for example). The climbs took pretty much all I had to offer, effort-wise.

Good place, though. I reckon we’ll be back soon enough

    (was much wetter today)

My experience with GoPro footage is that it always appears HEAPS slower on cam than it was in reality.
As I mentioned previously Afan is my local trail centre so I know it really well.
I thought the speed in that clip was fine for anybody let alone somebody on a SS. Hats off to you.
I wouldn’t worry about ssjeff’s comments. He seems to be a serial pest around here.

just out of interest then (and no particular invitation for willy-waving) how long would it take you lot to ride up whites from the ponds to the start of the energy section (no black* run detour) ?

(didn’t set a watch but I guess prob an hour for me this morning, maybe 45-50 on Friday)

    * = disappointing IMO 😐
