  • A&E or the Docs…

Wife has a bad knee.. very painful.. unable to bare any weight.. gradually got worse over the past couple of weeks. Now she cant stand at all. No swelling or obvious injury.

Is it really worth bothering A&E or will the doc just send us there anyway so wasting the docs time.. Dilemma

I’d try the docs – I suspect it’ll need looking at by someone beyond an a&e consultant and your gp will do the referal and prescribe anything they think appropriate in the meantime.

From the OP, no accident involved and been going on for 2 weeks so not an emergency.
Don’t think a&e will thank you for turning up with this.
See gp who may or may not need to do a referral.

to paraphrase the Right One Who Walks Amongst Us No More: “Is it an Emergency?”

gradually got worse over the past couple of weeks. ? “Emergency”

GP who will then wort out best place to go.

EDIT; ^ Beaten to it by a pro.

Thanks for the advice.. rang nhs direct.. booked in to gp.

unsucessful google search firstly gave me the nhs24 number for scotland 🙁 Why do scotland need a different number for nhs phone advice? seems a bit odd.

    Should have read the smallprint..

nhs24.com provides comprehensive up-to-date health information and self care advice for people in Scotland.

I Never knew that.. so is scotlands nhs solely financed by scotland NI receipts then?

If not, I wonder what will happen come independance (should it ever happen)?

NHS Scotland, just like NHS England, is funded from general taxation – that won’t change with independence.

due to tory cuts, our GP has been replaced by a crash test dummy with a prerecorded response to all patients:

    Take ibuprofen and rest

this may actually be right in your (her) case.

So, you rang NHS (re)direct for their advice and got the same advice as a bunch of (mostly) untrained peeps of t’internet….. Proving it’s worth again there. I **** HATE NHS (RE)DIRECT.
