Don't know if any of you have been through this, but our son has been rejected from all our preferred schools so we're planning on appealing … but we're not sure of the process / what to do … so looking for advice.

    The situation is:
    – we live in Kent, right on the Kent/Surrey border
    – our son took the 11+ and passed with flying colours
    – we applied to 4 schools – 2 Grammar and 2 state – rejected from them all
    – the Grammar schools are the nearest ones to us – one rejected us because his 11+ passmark was too low (fair enough) and the other because it was over-subscribed, and we're further away than other kids
    – one state school rejected us becasue it's in Surrey (all of 2 miles from us!), the other 'son't know' but it's not a preferred option at the mo

We want to appeal to the Grammar school that's over-subscribed. Apparently he's 26th on the waiting list.

Anyone got any tips / advice pls – rather stressed out over this 🙁

    Thanks

No real advice, but know that if you can get a head traches appeal it will really help.

And good luck, fight like mad, I'm lucky in SE Kent so no problems with over subscription, but strongly disagree with the people from outside Kent being given places before you guys.

Michael Douglas breakfast special down the LEA?

That's what I'd feel like, living in an advanced country that can't even sort out basic educational neccesities like having enough places for the children that were born 11 years ago.

Either the schoolsare to small,or poorly managed to not allow more kids to attend, ask the dept of education and the local authority what they intenbd to do.

Grammar schools are provided by us the tax payer, as are state schools.

Perhaps you should try a private school.

"like having enough places for the children that were born 11 years ago."

There are enough spaces. More than enough in fact. Kids don't stay where they're born, and people don't always want to take the spaces that exist.
