I’m after some spd winter boots for my size 12.5-13 (UK)hobbit feet.
Narrowed it down to Northwave Celsius in euro 49, or Lake MX145 in euro 50.
Nowhere local to me stocks these sizes so I can’t try ’em on though, so has
anyone experience of these and do they size up big/small?

I take size 11-12, depending on the shape of the shoe, and have the Lake MX145 boots in size 47.
They are a good fit, either with sealskins or woolie boolies.
Check with the supplier to see how they handle wrong sizes – most good retailers will allow for an exchange in such circumstances.

Excellent boots – just fill the area around the cleat bolt holes with some silicon sealant, after you’ve fitted the cleats.

I was under the impresssion the 145 was more a wet weather boot (£135 on Halford currently) & wasn’t that well insulated, as the MXZ303 is there winter boot.
Off to try before I buy, some today or tomorrow from a private seller… I asked yesterday about sizing

had the north waves for years but Im now fully converted to the new specialised winter boots (can’t remember the name). Water eventually gets into the north waves but so far nothing has made it into these new specialised ones!!

Just tried my size 47 Celsius on,
I have high instep and take 47 in shimano and Spesh shoes usually
The Celsius are size 47′, not 48 as I said before
normal socks plenty of room in width and length
Sealskin socks, snug fit but still perfectly fine

Just looked on bike de and since I ordered on the 26th there gone up to £109 🙁

I have few winter boots and normally proportioned feet 😉

Celsius curve in at the toe box and thus feel smaller then they are (take the insole out to measure the length, mine are IIRC 48’s

Sidi’s are curve in less than the Celsius IIRC 48’s

(sizes have worn out)

Specialised defrosters (new style) seem standard for specialised sizing, nice square toe box, managed to get a pair in 49 (normal fit is 48 for me) which are great as there is plenty of room to keep the circulation going

the defrosters are the best as the ankle seal is excellent minimising water dropping down into the boot

I’ll just add that the Lake MXZ303’s I’ve just bought are a size 47, and fit snuggly, but with no larger toe gap than my other shoes. I’d normally buy a shimano 46 & other ‘normal’ shoes in this size

I just ordered three sizes of Lake 303’s to my local Halfords, (including a wide fit)

With the offer on the website and British Cycling membership card at the till they came in a whisper below £130.

Wearing them now whilst sitting in the Kitchen and they are toasty warm, impressed with the leather construction and they way they close up as it looks like I’ll be able to wipe/hose off the mud and not soak the inside (unlike my old NW Celsius’s which seemed to have lots of nooks/crannies/velcro/metal gauze to hold all the mud)

I have size 12 wide fit lake 303s and they are the dogs danglies…….however make sure you rub some bees wax or other type of sealing wax into the seams as you will note they area are not actually classed as waterproof despite being pittards leather as the seams are not sealed and there is no Inner bootie ie goretex or other such waterproof membrane so water can seep in through the seams under extreme conditions. I clean myine down every couple of muddy rides and just treat them to some pure beeswax to maintain the waterproofing of the seams but also to keep the pittards leather uppers in good condition.

Indeedy interesting Suggsey, my m8’s started leaking slightly in early spring after months of wet weather riding. No mention on my box as to whether there std or wide fit that I can see, but seem fine though I’ve no idea if my feet are wide or not…

I purposefully ordered the wide fit or I can’t get my feet in standard fit width riding shoes.
Obviously with them being leather if you ‘ abuse ‘ them by drying in warm places the uppers won’t last as long as the soles. I always read the small print on any expensive purchases too hence knowing about occasionally sealing the seams. I actually emailed Lake to see what they recommend and basically they said any off the shelf wax type product and I found pure beeswax to be best to apply and no off putting sticky residue or smell like some of the branded waxes.

Hey spookyb329, are you going to put all three pairs inside each other – in a russian doll kind of way – for extra warmth 😉

Seriously, though, you can join me in my puddle hunting antics next time we ride together – was great fun mashing through the icy puddles on Sunday.

Yep if it’s pure bees wax it will do just fine. To be honest I used to use spray on furniture wax on my kangaroo leather rugby boots and they lasted years….invariably the so,e would tear off first!

I found this thread quite amusing, I always assumed “easygirl” was female. I had to check the profile when size 47’s were mentioned and my first thought was “Do they even make heels in that size?”.

I ordered 44, 45 and 45 wide to the shop (44 wide out of stock). The only place I found the ‘wide’ written was on the silver flocked foil insole.

I got comments from three members of staff around the fact I had ordered ‘loads’ of sizes, they’d obviously been having a bit moan up about it before I went in! I was expecting the 44s to fit and the 45 wide were just to try out of interest and they ended up being the comfiest 🙂

I just picked up a pair of NRTH45 Wolvhammers. They can deal with -25…. though I had to go to Calgary to get them.
So far, they are warm, clip in easily (despite the thick sole and my need to have the cleat mounted at the back of the slot) and do not irritate my achillies.
Just the ticket for long rides and warm feet.
