    Hi,

looking to get a bike for a friend. He wants good quality components and a decent frame, but not too bothered whether it's steel, ti or alu. It shouldn't be carbontastic.

We're looking for a bike which ticks most of these boxes (but not necessarily all) …
    – 120- 150mm travel
    – hardtail
    – 2×9 or 1×9 (x9 for easily available parts)
    – suitable for extended, 7,8 hr rides in the Peaks and Lakes
    – reasonably light weight
    – slack headtube angle
    – can take 2.35'' tyres on the rear

Overall build budget is around £1200, but that is negiotiable.

    I've shown him …
    – Orange P7
    – Transition AM
    – GT Zaskar Elite
    – On One inbred
    – On One 456
    – Charge Duster Hi
    – Rock Lobster 853
    – Iron Horse Scotch

have you any other ideas, or bikes for sale 😉

My P7 is all those things apart from being light-weight (though its not heavy, man) FWIW.

looked at mmmbop and blue pigs, but compared to the 456xt build, it isnt quite worth the extra effort of building and sourcing parts.

I'm pushing for a p7 though. What is the difference between the pure7 and the p7? I see that pure7 is more similar to the early p7's. I've never ridden one though,.. can anybody impart some pearly wisdom?

    The Genesis ones

I think alot of the range qualify and they seem to be well reviewed

So far as I know the Purep7 just doesnt have the sliding dropouts of the proper P7. Ive found the sliding dropouts handy when trying out singlespeed, also they'll be useful when I switch to Alfine.

Orange Crush or the basic Whyte 901?

orange crush would be perfect for him. I heard that they sold out quite quickly though? If anyone has one for sale let me know!

had p7 for 18 months now, jack of all the above (weight excluded), master of none. Makes you want to ride all day, comfortable all day aswell as willing to be taken out for crazy ones. Suits me anyway, feels like will last for years too.
