Move to France, that will “cure” it without the need to medicate 🙂

Damn iphone sent post before I was finished . Anyways I have ADHD but it’s not a problem when I’m not doing anything like on a day off . The thing is with it is I cannot get things done like its a lot harder for me to keep my mind on one topic. Things like applying for jobs , interviews , stressful and controlled environments is why I think I need medication for these things . Even tho at the time there was no medication suitable, there apparently is lots of new drugs 6 years on from my bad encounter with riterlin . I just was wondering if any ADHD users have tried them and if they work for them. Don’t wana give me a shot and go to countless GP and ADHD specialist meetings if their a load of shit . Thanks

An American friend at uni was diagnosed with ADHD and always had medication for it.

Whatever you do, remember that if take Adderall before a ride it makes it… kind of hard to stop 😀

OP, you need to go to the doctor’s whether you need medication or not.

I’m only finding out what my own problems are and I’m nearly twice your age – I wish I’d got things sorted out when I was younger, maybe then I wouldn’t feel like I’ve wasted years of my life.

Whatever happens, you need to find the correct help so you can cope with everyday situations.

Have you thought about going down an alternative route? Myadvice would be to get some advice and manage it yourself through diet. I have a friend and his son was diagnosed with ADHD. He sought the help of a nutritional therapist as he wasnt keen on the idea of giving mind bending chemicals to his son (thats for University!!), anyway after cutting out processed foods, sugar, sweets and giving his son a ‘clean’ diet….it has since disappeared and has shown no signs of returning.

    Worth a search…..

Thanks for all your advice , like how the site always offers diffrent advice. That’ sounds interesting I can control it myself to an extent just some times it goes out of control. I will look into it and I am not keen on drugs but nothing much else is working. When I first heard about riterlin I knew it couldn’t be much good for you . Everyone was like take it , guess what it’s banned now . Lol I think I need to try diffrent options the only one that I know won’t work is the therapy sessions at least for me.

As above I would honestly start with diet.
Don’t drink caffeine; alcohol only in moderation.
Avoid refined sugar; avoid artificial flavorings.

Also think about things like yoga etc to help focus the mind. It’s extremely tough initially as my mind was literally racing but it does help to calm things down with practice. I’ve never been diagnosed with ADHD but do suffer from a very short attention span. I suspect it’s partly that I’m probably 20 years older than you and so was just labelled as a hyperactive kid. Especially if you gave me smarties or the like….

I also find I just have to work with it to some extent. Music for me has a very calming effect so I have headphones on almost all the time in the office.

Music works amazing for me especially trance, but if I listen to fast basey music it sends me the opposite which is good for a weekend but not work haha. I will try that thanks . I love a coffee
    Tho:(

Interestingly I wasn’t going to mention what music but it is basically trance. Right now I’m in work but listening to euphoric dance from the late 90’s (Darude Sandstorm to be precise). My colleagues think it’s a little weird that I “focus” best with that but it does help no end.

There’s a strong tradition of bi polar disorders in my family, opinion of many is that the benefits of medication are insufficient to offset the loss of superpowers.

Any chance you can accept your characteristics as normal to you?

I would recommend reading a book called ‘Gut and Psychology Syndrome’ by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride.

The book advocates a diet based around real food and cutting out all but the simplest of sugars as the author believes that disorders and diseases of the mind largely originate with problems in the gut and digestion – her diet aims to heal the gut and in doing so alleviate mental symptoms or bring them under control. It makes an excellent starting point if you want to correct your diet.

Yeah we’ll I am very into EDM
Music always have been especially euphoric trance , I even produce to but sadly that won’t help me out in a working environment:( the diet would come in handy for me as we’ll as I pedal miles. Out on the bike 4
To 6 times a week and I takes ages to loose a ounce. Not guna lie tho it’s my fault I drink shit loads of coffe and the odd fizy pop , and a few cans on the weekend. I will pick the book up thanks

I feel normal as a person yes even tho I no I am not normal. Nobody is normal everyone is different, but if that makes sense, like what I mean is I’m into underground music, where as most people my age are into shit commercial lol. I would rather be at a rave than a average night out , I some times even use music to get me to sleep lol. But that’s what I mean I am normal yes but I have unpractical methods in everyday life. U
accepted to get a better life in move on I need to focus on things , be more organised . Sounds easy but it’s not for me, it’s hard to explain . An example say I need to run downstairs for something, my mind thinks about that many things when I get down I forget what I wanted . Then I can’t concentrate enough to think what it is. I need to live by notes lol sound like ave got bloody short term memory loss lmao.

    Evening
Not personally diagnosed with ADHD but then I’m a good bit older and was later diagnosed as bipolar so certainly a few personal issues and I’m no fan of the medicated route myself having dribbled my way through courses of lorazepam. I work with lots of ADHD kids though and do see many benefits to the changes in diet others have mentioned. Also I assume you ride a bike and this will almost certainly offer benefits.
From my own point of view when I’m feeling a spot crackers the best things are; exercise, music and although it might sound daft playing with the dog almost always helps to get me out of it. The self awareness to recognize that I’m hyper and cracking on and dealing with it rather than letting it spiral out of control has been of enormous help to myself but it took a lot of years of been an arsehole to those around me to get ‘mostly’ on top of it.
    Do see your GP though,
    Hope it works out right.

When I was younger I was prescribed Imipramine! I found cycling really helped though.

Find a job that compliments fast short bursts. Sales is good. I used to work in supply planning/forecasting and could finish my days work in a couple of hours then be horribly bored.

Yes cycling and music and motorbikes are the best for me. So I think everyone agrees that medication is a load of crap and can’t be good for your health . Don’t really see the point in seeing a GP unless I want medication. Yeah sales is what I am good at funny enough , soon as I get my licence I’m hoping to get on with Apple. Thanks to you all, great people 🙂
