Further to avalanchequeen’s thread, which actor do you think is vastly overated?

For me it’s Sean Bean, Clive Owen and RIcky Gervais; all of which are “the emperors new clothes” – just because someone says they’re good …doesn’t actually make them good!

Arnie. Like I said in the other thread perfect for playing a robot. Can’t Stand Tom cruise either.

Ricky Gervais is fantastic, Cruise has played extremely well in loads of roles and have enjoyed all his films ( vanilla sky very weird tho )

Nick Cage OTH, i agree with.

Like Tom Hanks, de niro and morgan freeman. Travolta is quite good as well, and Tim robbins in Shawshank redemption was ace.

Ah well Ricky is shit, BUT, he entertains so is exempt from being a ‘good’ actor.

Sean Bean? He’s just a standard B movie leading man isn’t he? Can’t see what’s objectionable there.

Leonardo Dicaprio is a good actor I guess, but way too short to be a leading man. You wouldn’t find pygmies like Dicaprio headlining films in the good old days of Holywood.

Tom Cruise is also a gnome, of course, but I don’t know anyone who rates him as an actor.

I do have delusions of being able to ‘act’, i haven’t been in anything for 25yrs (school play)..

    How hard can it be??

I reckon i could be great though 😉

Cage, Cruise are the worst, Craig maybe as well. Cruise is dreadful though, I mean really. Only done 1 film where I didn’t want to kill him.

Bean and Owen may not be great actors but have great presence.

Gervais is a rubbish actor but plays himself very well.

Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Terminator: Salvation): To steal a line from Dennis Pennis, when referring to Hugh Grant, “I thought someone had thrown a wooden chair onto the stage”.

How this guy became a professional actor I really don’t know.

cage and cruise are awful. Nobody does perplexed mongo quite like walberg. Pretty much any “big” hollywood star these days is an awful actor with very few exceptions

    Even in Blade Runner?

Cruise isn’t an actor, he’s a film star. Most of his films are just vehicles to make him look good.

Nic Cage just makes loads of rubbish films.

Jean Claude van dam, arnie, Steven seagull, Jason statham etc etc. Basically, anyone who appears in the Sunday night action packed thrillers where they’re out to avenge the death of brother/mother/partner/daughter/wife senario.

    Tom Hanks.

Definitely! For me he ruins every film he’s in. Soo overrated.

Worst for me are the overactors:
Think Al Pacino in Devil’s Advocate, Nicolas Cage, John Malcovic, Alan Rickman etc. Stick to the stage Luvvies!

Sorry, all those mentioned pale into insignificance in the shadow of the most wooden actor alive…

    Jeff Goldblum.

The contrast between him and the fabulous Vincent D’Onofrio in ‘Criminal Intent’ is just mindblowing. How the producers let the Goldblum stump anywhere near the show is mindboggling.

I have just thrown out some undefined rotting mass from the back of my fridge that had a more endearing character and captivating personality than poor old Jeff. He kinda suited ‘The Fly’ as his facial expression (or lack thereof) and delivery is close to that of a diptera.

Nicolas Cage (ruins pretty much every film he’s in apart from Kick Ass), Clive Owen, Sean Connery.

David Caruso’s ace, he’s like a modern day Shatner. I guess you could say he’s…
