  • Achilles' tendon pain – can you help?

On my MTB I have flats and never had any issues with foot pain.
On my road bike I have Specialized shoes and 105 clipped pedals and never had any issues.

On my touring bike I have DMRV8 pedals and have used the Teva shoes and others. Short distances are fine but 40miles plus my left Achilles starts to hurt. On the coast to coast last year it was so bad I had to walk up the hills at the end of the first day and it never got any better. That was 60mile days.

    Any ideas?

Don’t get Achilles issues with any other activity.

The only thing I have noticed is that my feet tend to migrate towards the outside of the pedal on the flats on the touring bike and I have to move them back in. Also I do tend to use my toes to pedal sometimes – is this causing strain?

Thinking of getting some SPD shoes and pedals but I like the freedom of wearing normal shoes when touring so I’d rather not really.

put the road bike shoes and pedals on the tourign bike and go for a 40 mile ride:

No pain – it’s the pedals and shoes
    Pain – it’s bike fit.

    That’s a good idea actually!
