I advised you when you first posted to use shea butter. You haven’t so your hands are still itching.

Leftfield thought, but if the creams recommended don’t solve your problem – consider a check for scabies mite.

    Could it be Psoriasis?

I have it – Mine comes and goes with personal Stress levels but never disappears completely. It is also better when I’m on holiday; reduced Stress levels and increased exposure to UV.

I’ve just come back from a 3 week holiday in Australia and my Psoriasis is at an all time low – phew 🙂

    Blimey, I feel reprimanded… 🙂

The Udderly Smooth has Shea butter in it innit…so I thought it’d kill two birds.
Did you mean pure Shea Butter?
I’ve just put some on order so I’ll try the 100% pure stuff too.

The itching has reduced quite a lot, but I’m still getting the odd day where it’s more pronounced.

You can see from the different replies here that there are lots of different forms of dermatitis with different causes and treatments, so I’d be wary of definitive solutions based on internet diagnosis.

If you have not got a successful solution from your GP, I would recommend that you ask to get referred to a dermatology specialist (and if you’ve already done that, ask to see another one).

I’ve had persistent dermatitis for around 40 years, and had various treatments over the years (hydrocortisones, emollients, etc). I asked to see a specialist (again) a few years ago when my hands got very bad, and after being examined, he advised me to stop using soap (even the perfume free, uncoloured soap which I had already used for many years). That was all it took to clear up my hands completely. Now I just use water or emollient cream to wash.

This treatment was the solution for me so it may well be completely irrelevant for you. The point is that it was an appointment and examination by a specialist that identified the appropriate solution for me.

Haven’t checked all the posts so this might have been mentioned before.

I suffered really badly from similar problems in teens/twenties. The doctor procsribed the usual hydrocortisone creams and chucked me out. NEXT!

Then one day there was a locum in the surgery instead of the usual doddery old fool. He actually seemed interested/knowledgeable and gave me the best tip that basically has sorted it for me.

He told me to put the cream on as usual (actually I was so worried about skin thinning I’d actually not being putting enough on, and the thinning wasn’t as much of an issue according to him).

Then the magic bit – put some plastic gloves on (like the ones you get at the diesel pumps at the petrol station, not the nitrile mechanics type ones) – I actually taped them shut around wrist as well. Keeps the moisture and cream in.

Usually did this overnight, but occasionally did at work a couple of times too (despite strange looks). It kept all the moisture in and actually sorted the issue very quickly – basically the skin managed to heal and I stopped having those weeping cuts that just kept getting infected. Hands were a bit clammy and wrinkly as you’d expect being in a plastic bag, in effect, but I’d live with that incovenience for a while.

Worth a try for a couple of weeks maybe? For the sake of a couple of pence in plastic gloves (or raid the local Shell garage…).

Sorry… just been taking lessons in rudeness from Mrs Gti.

I haven’t checked the formula but I guess Udderly Smooth will be a standard emulsion with some added shea butter. Try the pure shea butter for a couple of days and let me know how you get on.
