Viewing an Iveco Daily tomorrow, it’ll be the first Iveco I’ve looked at/driven so not familiar with the vehicle and won’t know what to expect/look for when test driving it so will probably get an Inspection done. Also it’s a private sale so I have no come back once I’ve handed over the cash, reckon he will accept an offer of £3500.

It’ll cost me £136 ish as an AA member, just wondering what peoples opinion is of the check, and whether there are any other companies that are better value?

I used it some years ago & it was worth the money to pick up something I hadn’t noticed + give more bargaining power with the purchase price.
This was before I knew much about cars & specific things to look for on that one, although the price was ~£100 then.

Definitely worth it for the price, but only do it if you’re reasonably sure you’re going to buy the vehicle.

Be aware, though, that the ‘checker’ will want to feel he’s earned his money, so may point out things you don’t have to worry too much about. I’m not saying this is a bad thing; only that you shouldn’t automatically be turned off the vehicle if the report shows up more ‘problems’ than you expected.

got an RAC inspection on a car I was going to buy last year. The guy told me to walk away as it was a complete duffer. Well worht it if you don’t know what your looking for and if it’s at the otherside of the country.

Its about 1hr45mins drive from me, but the guy is going to put a new MOT on it before it goes so this will ensure some of the basics like tyres/shocks/play in suspension etc is checked. Still worth getting one done?!

Also realised that a van check is £160 not £137.

you could always book it into a local garage and get them to give it the once over. an hour on the ramps at an under the arches type place should cost a lot less than the AA check
unless the AA check brings with it some sort of warranty??

Apparently the AA check has no guarantees…a bit like a house survey.

Anyone used or heard of https://www.dekra-expert.co.uk ?

Plus I wouldn’t be buying an Iveco in the first place!

Better off buying a Renault Master/Vauxhall Movano if you’re looking for private use, I get 32Mpg out of mine, our companies Ivecos manage 23-24Mpg!

Plus trying to get into one is difficult because they are rear wheel drive so all the axles run underneath so they are 7-8 inches higher than a master to climb into the back of.

Sorry but the Ivecos in our experiences have been unreliable noisy thirsty beasts. If you want rear wheel drive go for the Mercedes Sprinter/ Volkswagen LT range, its a far smoother class of vehicle.

Unfortunately its either an Iveco Daily or a 4×4!

I need to tow a 3000kg horse trailer, including across grass every now and then, even with the Iveco I have to downrate the trailer to 2800kg to stay legal unless I find a rare twin wheel version.

The Iveco is the only van that can tow 2800kg apart from certain Transits which are hard to find, and rear wheel drive is essential as I’d get stuck on wet tarmac hills otherwise.

A 4×4 will just sit there unused most of the time, at least the van can be converted to a campervan. (something I’ve been planning for four years!) Also its wider than a Sprinter/Transit which means I can have a sideways bed and therefore a shorter van. Its a 2.3 rather than the older 2.8 engine so hopefully mpg will be a bit better than you experienced.

I was a member of the AA and it was actually a bit cheaper to get the equivalent RAC check done a few years ago.

had one done several years ago because was buying a nearly new 2nd hand car (though it was from company i worked for so new the history but as no warranty needed roadworthiness check) for mrs antigee and was financing it thru a low cost local authority essential car user loan (no its not an MP style fiddle) pointed out a few small things i wasn’t aware of and on departure gave me his business card and said next time ring me direct and it’ll be half the price – haven’t got the card but i guess if you google independent vehicle inspectors there will be one around- i’m also sure there is some sort of trade body/asssociation as came across one as a partner of someone at another co’ he was a specialist in crashed commercial values but would do cars as fillers
