One year ago today I sat in the doctors office and was told “so it is cancerous”. It still doesn’t feel real!

I’ve had my saliva gland removed (google parotidectomy if you like a bit of gore) and enough radiotherapy to peel the skin off my face, and take half my beard – permanently.

I’ve chosen today to launch my fundraising appeal for Anthony Nolan, in aid of 29er Keith.

Please help me to give cancer a kick up the arse. It’s a cruel merciless disease.

    Wow Thom,

Quite a coincidence! I had exactly the same exactly 12 months ago as well.

Hope you’ve got used to the half beard look and are healing well mate

Very true. A few weeks ago my father-in-law was given six months to live. Tomorrow I’m flying back to the UK for his funeral 🙁

It is very shit indeed, donation made.

Thank you everyone who has donated. It’s made a huge difference to my mood, and more importanly i’m sure it’ll do great work for the bone marrow register.

If you are under 30 and fit please consider joining.

Please do. As much publicity as possible would be great.

    Bloody good work Thom..!

Good luck raising the money, doing the ride and, just as importantly, continuing your own recovering.

    Chapeau!

    Just chipped in too.

My mum just got the all clear for the second time in two years, but she has the BRCA2 gene mutation so it’ll be back.

    Cancer is a dick.

    Thank you so much guys.

I’ve really been stressing over making the minimum £600 i signed a contract to say i’d pay if i couldn’t raise! 😯

Turns out i shouldn’t have been so worried about that. Now i’ve just got to worry about the training!

    Thanks again.

Thank you everyone who has helped me reach my target in less than 48 hours. I think this is a real testemant to what a community this weird little corner of mountain biking can be.

    Cheers.
