Idly browsing around Instagrams bike sites and i found this:

36er by martinddd, on Flickr[/img]

It looks like one of those “just let me have a go!” bikes (if only i could pedal it).

Why? I’ve spent time at Muddy Boots in Fife and riding on the penny farthing they have there…it leaves absolutely no desire to try riding it offroad…actually there is no desire to ride it after you have gone round the track once!

Why?

To ride it up stairs ! 😉

Why?

Because it isn’t ordinary. (See what I did there?)

Jeffson built one in 2010 and raced it in the singlespeed world champs. Usually fetches it out for the NZSS champs.

I had a go on a Blacksheep 36 and was quite surprised how normal it felt.
Up and down stairs was indeed rather smooth for a rigid bike.

Steering it I imagine is ‘eventful’.

This is the kind of thread I used to see back before 27.5/650b was a thing.

Get ready to throw all of your current generation of frames/forks/wheels/tyres/spokes/chainsets in the bin in about 5 years time.

I wonder about road bikes with bigger wheels. Surely the tarmac would come alive?

Doubtful, it’d just smooth it out more!

I like the keener 36er, you can fit a beer in the home machined lefty hub and it’s an epic display of what a bloke in shed can go

An event as in something that requires years of planning, complicated logistics and won’t be quite what you thought it would be?

, you can fit a beer in the home machined lefty hub

But why would you want to?
A) it’ll get all shaken up
B) that’s like designing somewhere to store you bacon sandwich.

A bacon butty holder! Genius idea, you could make a little cage mount to keep it warm and sell it along with those hip flask cages 🙂

Looks like we’ve had the big wheel discussion before… 🙂
