Friends received a Wii game from Japan and it doesn’t work in there UK bought Wii.
Anybody know of a solution to this problem or should they just punt it on fleabay(it is the new Mario game that is not available here for another year)?

Chipping the Wii to remove the region locking I guess? Voids your warranty though.

They have not looked to deeply into thus far, can chipping be done and how much/any experience?

Google Wii softchip. $30 and looks easy, but this post doesn’t constitute a warranty of any type.

Wiis can be sotmodded for free – there is a variety of confusing information available on the relavent forums. Google will steer you in the right direction. Softmodding to play a Japan region game is probably legal

Yes as others have said it’s the software that needs modifying. There are various routes such as freeloader to allow a PAL Wii to play JAP & NTSC games. All will void your warranty with Nintendo. I used to mod PS2’s & XBox’s but haven’t dabbled with Wii too much, the text could well be in Japenese though, shouldn’t matter too much on a Mario game. Hope they get it going and have fun.
