  • A quick question about Fox rear shock servicing

    I do most of my bike servicing myself, including replacing oils / seals on my shock and forks. However, the pro-pedal on my Fox RP23 has started to lose some of its firmness and I’ve been told that it needs a “full service” by my LBS.

    What does this actually entail that I can’t do myself? I’ve read something in the past that Fox’s platform damper runs on a separate nitrogen circuit. Has that got something to do with it?

    Think of what you can do with the rear shock as a lower service on your forks-it’s great interim maintenance, but you can’t get into the damping circuit(s)
    That needs to be done by someone who really knows what they’re doing because of the nitrogen & the more specialist tool involved.
    So yes, your LBS is very much correct

    Full service will include striping the damper and cleaning it all out including the shims etc and depending on the type of damper they need bleeding with a very expensive machine when rebuilding.

    However they have opened the rules a bit so the full guides are online on the fox site so you can have a look and make the call for yourself

    Rp23 isn’t that hard to do
    You don’t need a vacuum machine to bleed stuff like that it’s dead easy to do with one but it’s not hard without it
    The propedal will be squishy because the oil is old and abit emulsified
    Change the oil set the ifp charge the chamber not massively hard but you do need the stuff to do it .
