this weekend i atteneded and passed my ctc mtb instrucors course.
i found it an amazing experience in many ways and feel that i have a new begining in life opening up for me.
after a year jobless i had to explore new ways of living and have found one.

Good news – Good luck with the new venture.

Although we've never met I can't think of anyone who has not praised your ability to teach and inspire them to greater things on a bike.

I didn't know the CTC did "Riding on woodwork at heights" courses! 😉

Mate of mine is in a similar position and has had to re-evaluate his life. Hope this works out for you!

I would have thought your type of riding would have you better suited for a carpentry course Jedi 😉

Congrats and be sure to publicise yer ass off on here once you have everything set up. Hopefully i will have passed my driving test before end of the year so will be able to travel down to take advantage of your new certificated skillset

Good luck with this, over the years oyu've put a hell of a lot into cycling, hope you get a bit more than just good vibes out of it now.

Looking forward to seeing all the 'ukbikeskills' threads on here to take up the slack left over with the 'big bike bash' and 'hit the north' being finished.

Well done young man. I did start to wonder how you managed to be riding nearly everyday! Sorry to hear of the job loss. I hope the new venture goes well as I certainly know you are a good teacher when it comes to bike skills!
Like the mail above… do you start with a beginners course? 😆

jedi: Trail Leader or Technical? I'm trying to do them but having trouble just getting enough info together to actually do a course, I think all the bods at the CTC have been on holiday and then away teaching you!

So – going to finally teach me how to jump the tandem????

Nice one – I like the idea of going to the trainees trails to teach – thats a USP that none of the trainers have so far as I know. You would have to be sure that their trails had the needed features tho.

    Good luck.

What had you done prior to CTC SKills Instructor because from the CTC ProMTB site, Trail Leader and Technical Leader are prerequisites..?

(I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall with all this stuff )

    Good luck!

Just remember not to laugh too hard when the client gets it wrong and lands on the stem from 6' up – I don't think Jon has forgiven you for that one yet… (I know he hasn't forgiven me, and it must have been about 5 years ago now!)

Awesome, at a similar point in my life and was considering the same.

But comparing your ability to my own and the fact you'll be covering my area too…..

Anyone want a builder, can do plastering and other stuff with me anzs..

    Well done Jedi

Glad you enjoyed it Jedi – told you you would! Spoke to Richard earlier and he said you were a good bunch.

Gary – pretty sure it doesn't matter what order you do stuff in. Nothing to stop you booking onto the CTC instructor and doing some other leadership course separately. Richard at AllBikedUp is in the office (or was earlier) and he'll give you the low-down.

you must have leadership(either ctc or mias) before the skills instructor one

I'm supposed to start running a BMX club in the next few weeks, given my hopelessness on a BMX this could be quite ammusing.

Respect and good luck to you. Teaching is so rewarding. I specialise in the art of the perfect crash but seriously, love your skinny wood work vids. Ur, thats not supposed to sound strangely sexual.

Having never met you I get good vibes through STW that this is your vocation in life.

All the best, I think things are going to go well for you.

P.S. Having just been on a skills course last Sunday, I think everyone should try one, it's really been a benefit to me.

    Congratulations Jedi.

As i am in a similar position as regards redundancy, i too have decided to try to turn my hobby into work.
I'm currently in the process of volunteering with the CTC and my local authority in order to gain experience before the authority will pay for my to undergo my level 1 leader/instructor course.

I think i would like to work with the local authority and help train and promote cycling, especially with regards to the disabled/disadvantaged etc.

If anyone can give me any tips, ideas, course knowledge etc i would be most grateful!
