I put this video on my FB page, and some people find it very relaxing – so, here for your viewing pleasure, is a Kennedy power saw cutting through a 1″ aluminium bar:

Watch for the finale, it’s worth it 😀

People have told me they’ve seen machines like that adapted for other purposes on sites I’ve never visited.

I know exactly what you mean – I really want this spoke rolling machine for instance:

In fairness, I think the video in the OP could have done with being sped up x quite a few.

But then you don’t get the relaxing sound effects!

Yeah, that’s what she said too.

    I lasted 43 seconds.

Good work! I didn’t even get slightly aroused until the second video.

Aye, definitely – can see the points on the cut where I added more cutting fluid. Still produced a lovely finish though.

A pot of paste and a small brush, you can apply it to the top of the blade and it will flow into the cut.

I am disappointed in you Ben.
A man of your caliber should have known to use lube with a stroke that fast.
You will end up with a blunt or damaged tool, and it won’t last very long.

I normally do it by hand, that’s much more gentle – and you can tell when it’s getting warm.

Is there a Benni Benassi version using powertools ?

Are there any teeth on that blade ?
was very frustrating to watch juinor hacksaw would have cut it faster me thinks 😕

Speed isn’t everything, it’s smoothness with a lovely finish.

A tortoise with a blunt spoon would have been no slower than that Kennedy saw.

I reckon you could get through that bar quicker with a plastic knife from an airline economy meal set!

I might experiment with the oil pot thing, that controls the rate of descent – I read that heavyweight oil was good so put in some 80W transmission oil.

Not all that fussed about speed, though – it cuts neatly and fits on my bench which is all that matters to me 😉

That thread-rolling one is a H&S report waiting to happen.

My spoke rolling machine is a little safer, though of a similar vintage:

Oh good, I have been meaning to talk to you about very small spokes. front drum to 451 rim…

I have a larger floor standing mechanical hacksaw, from memory it can cut an eight or ten inch I beam. The reciprocating speed is much slower than the OPs. I bought it second hand at a farm sale, it’s really handy when you need it.

Yes, you can pick up the large ones pretty cheaply, but they’re too big for my workshop – I’d love to have the space for big machine tools 😉

Yup, can do that – my gadget will do down to 70mm spokes.
