I bought Cynical’s 9:Zero:7 frame, stripped down my Pug, and built this:
Nothing wrong with the Pug – I just need my bike to be lighter for lifting over deer fences. (I’d happily recommend a Pug to anyone. You don’t notice the weight unless you have to lift it.)
It’s only lighter than the frame weight difference at the moment, but I have other mods to make, eg I’m building lighter wheels this weekend.
The mudguard is from a trials motorbike. I modified it with a heat gun so it fitted between the fork legs and made up the stays from some alloy tube. I made a matching rear too, but it needs further mods to fit the 9:Zero:7 compared to the Pug. Seeing as fat wheels chuck up prodigious amounts of muck, good mudguards are worthwhile.
Pic of the Pug with the mudguards – top rear mount is from a rear rack.

I ride with someone who has a mukluk and whilst I do ‘get’ the principal of these bikes I don’t get the mudguards off either of them above. It looks like they were stolen off someone’s car…
If you have a fatbike, you’re going to be riding it through glop that would stop a trail centre style bike. Lots of the glop gets chucked up in the air at face level in front of you.
I suppose it all depends how much dog/bovine exhaust or peatbog you care to ingest.
