ive no real interest in “upgrading” my very effective 9-speed SRAM/Zee/XTR hybrid drivetrain but I am curious about adding an expander cog to extend the range. Anyone done it? If so what did you do?

    For reference:

    Shifter – SRAM X0 or X9 – I forget
Mech – Shimano Zee – shorter cage version with cable spacer
    Cassette – XTR 11-34 9-speed

Happy to buy a RAD cage if necessary.

You even have the right cassette to do it.

That’s interesting thanks Rob. So it can be done – anyone know if the ramps are in similar positions on most cogs? I’d prefer a British made one if possible.

You’ll be outside the limits of what a short cage mech can handle officially (11-36 max). It might work but a medium would be better. Can you even get a RAD cage in short as well?
