  • 8/9 sspeed mech compatability!?

    Just building up an old Scott bike. Have fitted a new Truvative BB and crankset with external bearings. Front mech doesnt seem to have enough range of movment to to guide chain from granny to big ring. Do I have to use a 9 speed front mech?

    Probably, newer chainsets are set to give a wider chainline than before (probably for extra clearance with the wider tyres now available), and a lot of older mechs wont move out far enough to cope.
