7 Stanes website?

Is the old 7 Stanes website gone? It used to have maps, trail updates, merchandise etc. Now I can just find: http://scotland.forestry.gov.uk/activities/mountain-biking/7stanes

Budget cuts maybe?

Plug pulled end of March this year due to budget cuts etc. What you saw was a marketing “tool” and was supposed to be self financing, which it never did I believe. The staff were moved from Dumfries to the “white elephant ” at GT before the plug was finally pulled.

Trail maintenance is also in decline, expect to see some trails abandoned 😕

That’s worrying to hear as the trials are great although I think Newcastleton was made much worse when they moved the car park to the village. I used to ride there two or three times a week but haven’t been for ages, just too much climbing, especially for the kids. The start from the old car park was beautiful and a nice place to picnic and bbq. I do love Ae and am surprised more people don’t. I was hoping the centres would continue to develop but sadly this seems unlikely.

The car park in Newcastleton village was supposed to increase visitor numbers and contribute to the economy of local businesses. Does anyone know if this has been the case or not?

Jaylaz it has talking to the owners of copshie kitchen she was saying it’s noticeably busier since the move. Can’t vouch for other businesses.

You can still drive up to the old start there are plenty of places to park. Or Park up by whithaugh and just play on the new skills loop and the last descent.

Better be quick though I fear Newcastleton is on the cards for being abandoned.

I’m pleased that a local business reports more visitors and I really hope Newcastleton stays open, I’ve had some great rides there after work, at night and during the winter, such a beautiful forest. The riding, although a short trail, is really quite good and I often ride two loops. However, the climb from the start in the village is just too much and I like climbing!
