One specialist later I was the owner of a £100 car ignition key

    Vauxhall insignia = £145.

    Yay! I win!

    £6 at Timpsons? Criminal

Timpsons sense of responsibility is incredible. 10% of staff are ex convicts…

    That’ll explain why I felt robbed 😀

The bottom line podcast is a classic btw.
Its not just about employing ex offenders although that always gets the headlines. Really its about how the owner has decentralised the business, the sales data isnt linked, what happens in a store is left to the manager of that store.
Unheard of from a big chain when normally everything is analysed to the last customer cough.
At the time of the podcast it seemed to be working, hope it still is.

Try getting a barrel-type key for a bike lock cut for six quid! I just had a nice brass back-up front door key cut to keep in my wallet at Timpson’s, and it was £6, IIRC. Seems reasonable to me.

If you’ve got a bog-standard Eurocylinder lock then replace it with something secure. A burglar will break the Eurocylinder and be in your house in under a minute, happened to me.

sounds fair to me, and i live in Yorkshire.

    Incomer eh?
    🙂

Sounds a bit pricey to me and I’m from Lancashire.

Three for a tenner in Asda.

Three for a tenner at Homebase too, using an automated machine. It takes a picture of the key, tells the operator what blank to load and away it goes.

For a bog standard yale type key, the shop in my local town charges £4. Got one done in the city where I work and it was £6.

Key cutting it seems, is like the price of a pint of beer, depends where you go! 😆

Timpsons normally do 3 for a tenner too.

Only £2.50 here, from a bloke in a blue overall who will happily sell you fork handles and various sorts of plugs.

Edit: pic not working, try again.

I agree with £6 seeming expensive.
I was given this quote for a similar Yale type key, so went to the local hardware shop who charged £2 for the same product. No issues with it not fitting the tumblers either – they put it onto a polishing wheel to remove any sharp edges.

No wonder half the country’s broke and just voted to leave EU in protest! FFS… £6! Or do we not care about people struggling by on low incomes so long as we’re ok…

Thank goodness there’s businesses run like Timpsons – proving capitalism can be a force for social good at the same time as providing decently-paid jobs and creating wealth for the owners and shareholders.

The confounding thing about Timpsons is that the Chief Exec’s brother is a Tory Minister – so luckily for us not all Tories are of the May and Osborne variety… just rather a lot of them, sadly

Well, if I was stupid enough to have voted out then I’d think that 52% of 70% was ‘all the people’ but as I’m not that stupid I accept your correction… 🙂 though of course the point still stands… the less we’re willing to pay for UK-produced goods and services the faster the economy will go down the pan as the jobs go abroad and remaining workers get testy… as we’re currently finding out…

There used to be an old boy operating out of the back of an old HiAce on the road into Torquay.
Only used to to operate in the summer. £1 a key. And they were good too, not like the sh1te I had cut at Trago for £4 that wouldn’t open the door. Haven’t seen him since they opened the bypass

Have you seen the key for the current 7-Series ? It has a touch screen. I dread to think what a replacement costs.

I paid £9the other day for an identical pair of padlock keys, wouldn’t have minded, but neither worked when I got home….

£6 key? Lift up handle? Anyone with a drill could be through that in seconds, better off using duct tape and sticks
