Been toying with the idea of a road bike on the c2w scheme for a while and would like to take advantage before it disappears….

I know little in this area but the specialised langster appears to get really good reviews, I don't really want to spend more than £500 and I don't want a bike with stuff that breaks or needs upgrading after 6 months.

Would like a geared bike but don't reckon I can get a decent one for sub £500. Anyone got any others for me to look at?

500 quid won't get you a good geared road bike these days unless the likes of Pauls Cycles or Whinstanleys has one and that probably won't be on C2W

I asked a similar question 4 or 5 months ago, and in the end got a Genesis Day One Cross, which I am very happy with. 500 notes exactly.

£500 will get you the Boardman Comp sports hybrid.

I bought one and i love it. It's a flat-barred road bike in essence, 700c wheels, 50/36 compact chainset & SRAM 5 gearing.
It comes with avid BB5 mechanical discs but i replaced them with some old Hope mini's i had in the shed.

It's a really fun bike to ride & i can average 17mph on it without too much effort. It's comfy without being laid back & responsive without being too twitchy. Definitely worth a try anyway.

Will take a look at the genesis.

Alas I think boardman bikes are out as it's a cyclescheme voucher which I'm pretty sure halfords wouldn't accept. I'll take a look at the bike anyway 🙂

Edinburgh Bike Co-Op have an own brand CX bike called the Revolution Cross Sport for £500 and also a road bike for the same price called the Revolution Continental Sport.

I'm in the same boat, like the Spesh Langster and the Charge Plug, excuse my naievety, are they both Fixies?

Currently use a SS 29er for commuting, but it's geared for the hills really, would like to try riding a Fixie and wouldn't really be duplicating bikes, the 29er can go back to off road duties!
