Just wondering what the difference is between a 9 speed crank and a 10 speed crank? Is it just the rings or is the distance between the rings different as well?

Also if you put one of the new 10 speed rear derailiers with the clutch on a 9 speed set up what issues should you have? I figure you may have to change the jockey wheels but if it still set up with a 9 speed shifter and cassette would the set up work?

I fancy one of the new clutch derailiers but don’t fancy replacing a good, new 9 speed full set up.

There is some talk that 10 speed rings are slightly closer together but the reality is that it’ll work fine.

The 10 speed rear mechs have a different cable pull ratio, so the mech will move less than it should when activated by a 9 speed shifter so it won’t change gear. So, no, you can’t use a clutch mech.

9/10 speed rings are interchangeable, there’s no issue there, you just can’t interchange the shifty bits.

No difference between the 10 and 9 speed front rings / mech / cable pull etc. Feel free to mix and match up front, but it’s completely incompatible at the back.
