    with an 11 34 cassette will i miss the granny ring?

    You can go 32/40, I rode that as a stop gap at the weekend and it wasn't great, they're too close together, 28/40 works really nicely though.

    TA do inner rings in 28, and middle rings in 40, which work perfectly well as a big ring. You also get the chainline advantage if you do that, so you can go big/big without it being a horrible angle.

    As long as there's enough room so that the bigger rings don't touch the drive side chainstay.

    Yep, true, usually seems alright to be fair. Blur XCc may be an issue. Not seen any problems on hardtails, it's only ratios akin to XX after all.

    But still worth having a look at before buying new rings. 🙂

    I've got two hardtails that wouldn't be able to run rings of that size.
