£300 hardtail; xc. What would you suggest?

On a bit of a tight budget, but in the next month or so will be looking for a hard tail xc bike.

Around £300 is the budget, and recommendations?

Any advice gratefully received!

I'd probably go 2nd hand myself, although something like the Specialized Hardrock would be a decent starter choice.

Yeah, was hoping for bikes I should be looking out for second hand.

Are rockhoppers ever around at that price?

i'd go 2nd hand aswell
maybe giant xtc
these have very light frames and will always pop up on ebay,

If you want new the bikes in Decathlon are about as good as it gets for that price.

Wondering what second hand bikes are available on that budget?

Im assuming in going second hand I can probably get something a few years old but better quality?

Yes you can, but buy carefully, but if the chain cassette and rings are mashed then it will soon pop your budget even for the most basic 9 speed stuff (assuming 9 speed)

I just had a quick squint on pinkbike and there is a rockhopper bang on your budget and including good stuff liek crud gaurds etc…
