  • 3 peaks (Yorkshire) routes advice – on road and off road if poss.

    Afternoon.

Group of mates are walking the Yorkshire 3 peaks on Saturday.
Would love to join them, but due to a dodgy ankle I don’t think I’d be able to manage the 20 odd miles of walking at the mo.

Anyone got a map of a decent 3 peaks bike route?

90% sure I’ll be doing it on the MTB, but would also appreciate a decent road route taking in the 3 peaks if anyone has one.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you not looked at an OS map or even basic road map?

There is no road route as such that goes from A-B-C.

Only Ingleborough has a BW up it and thats the same way up and down!

a nice route from helwith bridge is, up the road to ribblehead viaduct, then left all the way down to ingleton, then back lane to clapham, then throught austwick back to helwith.

nice 50/50 route is up the bridleway from the pub in horton, up to langstrothdale forest, left through the forest, pennine way to cam end the left and down to ribblehead, left on the road and road back to horton.

    2 nice easyish spins.

Have done the off road ‘Tour of Pen Y Ghent’ circular a few times and a couple of routes over to Ribblehead from Ingleton.

Am just after some knowledgeable advice as to the most pleasant routes available in the area – can’t beat local knowledge.

If that’s ok with you, Dunc. 🙂

    EDIT – Cheers Ton.

Will check those out tonight and try and sort out a nice big route.
The walkers should be out for about 10 hours, including stops, so I’ve a lot of time to fill.

Have a look around Austwick, Feizor, Wharfe and Clapham if you’ve got time.

    Walkers track to PyG

    Horton to Foxup

    Horse Head to Yockenthwaite

    Back through Greenfield

    Old Ings to Cam End

    Cam End to Ribblehead

Ribblehead over Scales Moor to Ingleton

**Back road from Ingleton to Clapham
    Clapham to Horton

Long lane & then moor to Selside (road back to Horton)

    Job done 😀

I thought you were after a route that roughly followed the walking route, which certainly in no way is possible.

    🙂

No worries Dunc, I should have been more (or less) specific.

Plenty to go at there, thanks folks.

Looks like I’ll be hitting the maps tonight.

    EDIT:
[Balls to Benji] Addictive, isn’t it Harry?
I’ve finally got some lower gears on the old Trek – I’m really enjoying it. First road bike for 20 years, why did I leave it so long?
Looking forward to Mr Sparkles’ run to the coast if I can get fit enough. [Balls to Benji 😀 ]

In fact, we’re off for a weeks riding in Wales soon and, for the first time ever, taking the road bikes. Don’t tell anyone will you?
