Bloody hell. I was out on my bike yesterday and saw the aftermath of the one on the A66 from a side road. First nice day, bikes everywhere.

I sometimes wonder whether I should stick to push bikes …..

if this ever happens to me, I hope I can get right back up and ask WTF?!

Watching that vid – fella did that to me once, but I was in a car doing nearly 60.
Spun him round and sent him back off up the road.
I was OK other than cuts and severe bruising.
    Carelessness doesn’t end with cyclists.

A friends brother is paraplegic due to a similar accident as that. He’s wasn’t going particularly fast on his bike either.

    ouch

bikes (and summer sporty cars) are often on limited month plates here, so no doubt first weekend in march sees a lot of business in A+E.

loads at the weekend, but most of the ones I encountered were what I’d call “classic” bikes out for a sedate sunday afternoon ride, rather than people pretending to be Rossi on hairpin bends.

You can be the most competent biker in the planet, but you can’t legislate against the stupidity of others.

Having had a quick look all I can see is police are appealing for witnesses. (BBC and local papers) Is there something saying the crashes were one way or the other.

I saw that yesterday stoner. Stupid stupid woman! The lads weren’t in any way to blame as they seemed to be taking it nice and steady. However I did wonder if he was fully aware as he didn’t seem to react in anyway whatsoever.

Perhaps should have been covering the brake if a car was turning, but the length of time from the car swinging round and impact didn’t leave much time!

Surely you’re having a laugh? Or you’re some superhuman being with faster reactions than anyone else (on your keyboard, no doubt)!

You got it dez. However if you look just above the little bit you highlighted I did say that I thought they were in no way to blame. I fully appreciate not even Rossi would have dodged that one but there’s not even a flinch of movement or brake light.
It was actually the old man who showed it to me yesterday and he did think the same.
However as I said the bikers are in NO way to blame, but that woman’s driving highlights one of the reasons I’m not allowed to have a motorbike!

Looked like a nasty motorcycle accident near Edale yesterday. First nice day of the year and loads of motorbikes come out. Dangerous times as people try riding exactly the same as they were last summer when they put the bike away. It can take a while to get your eye in again if you take the winter off.

Of course, in that same time, car drives have stopped looking for bikes (if they did) so it’s a double whammy.

I’m pretty sure the brake light comes on the moment she starts to cross the line, and there’s a little wiggle of the back wheel at the same time as well.

Bit weird the guy on the bike behind doesn’t rush to his friends aid.

This exact same thing happened to me in 1998. T-boned by Royal Mail van who saw me but thought he could “beat me” out of the side road.

The only thing that save my life was that it was a small (Ford Escort) sized van and I was catapulted over the top of the thing. landed 20+m further down the road with a dislocated wrist and shoulder (opposite arms) I never rode again.

Had the same as above happen to me on my bike in bristol- gap in the traffic (filled by me) and a women decided to turn right, didn’t see me , took my front wheel clean off – got a new bike out of it and caused a fair amount of damage to her audi TT.

I have to agree with the millisecond reaction time- I had no time to react, beyond an “oh, sh*t , this is going to hurt”

I’d agree with the previous Poster, he just seemed to ride into her as the least I’d have expected at that slow a speed would be a back wheel lifting from slamming on the front brake.

But I guess it was their first ride of the year, and he just wasn’t expecting the driver to do the ‘unexpected’.

And tbh the standard of riding I use to see in the spring by the fair-weather bikers was quite scary.

I often used to hit the headlight flasher in that kind of situation, full beam in the face seemed to wake them up as I never got caught. Nearest I came to any accident was riding fast on deserted upland area roads and misreading the road through my own lack of attention.
