Works for me on the Mendips. I can get up most stuff with that.

I use 36:20 because I run 36 with my Rohloff. But it still comes out at 52″ gear inches, the same as 32:18 29er or 32:16 26er.

Just started back at SS as Im in training for May in the pyrenees so dont quite have the leg strength to SS up all the steep hills on Malvern yet. But it’s coming on well.

If it’s hilly use a 20 on the back for a more relaxed ride, if not as hilly use a 19 and if it’s flat try a 14 or 16.

    32:18 works fine for me.Got a 33 for if I get fit.

I have 34:18 on mine, which is about the same as 32:15 on a 26er.

But JoB gave you the right answer.

thanks boys, sounds like its a problem with the legs and not with the ratios.
