After a bit of advice please.
I’ve finally decided to get back into mtb ing and am wondering what would be best suited for me.

I’m currently weighing 280lbs and wonder should I be looking at a 26 or 29 inch wheel, thinking flex may be an issue etc.

A mate of mine let me use his orange five which was really nice however it seems 29ers are everywhere.

Any advice would be really helpful.

nice hefty steel hardtail. anything from on one.
cheap, good vfm, and i have never broke one, and i have been up to 23 stone.
in either wheel size, tho a good set of mavic 729 rims built on hope hubs in a 26” is nigh on indestructable.

I’ve never been as heavy as you but within about 10%. I’d say that your weight is irrelevant in choosing 29 or 26. Ride both, choose which you prefer.

Quoting the ‘what size’ FAQ on the on-one website:

“Right now we think that REALLY big lads are served better on 26in wheels with big 2.5in + tyres, rather than 29er wheels. But we’re working on stuff. And when I say ‘big lads’ I mean them over like 25 stone.”

So at 20 stone you should be ok on either.
