As listed above, I have what was at the time, an all singing and all dancing, XTR, CrossMax, headshok, Carbon race machine that just so happens to now be a bit old fashioned. Its looking a bit rough round the edges and the headshok may well be on its last legs (according to the bloke who last serviced it) and lm now thinking of going back to XC racing after a few years on the road and TT’ing.

Question is, is it worth selling (im guessing id get no more than £700 for it (£3k new!)), and buying a 29″ bike? My budget would probably be no more than £1000 on top of whatever l make for it. I’d aim to be fighting for the podium in the sport category, so not just bumbling along at the back.

    Thoughts?

I guess something like this would be equivalent in 29 flavour for your 1700 budget, probable not going to be as light as your current bike though

I’d say defo if it’s just a question of which xc race bike to have – new race 29er would be good to have and get you fired up for the season.

In the grand scheme of things, though – do you have other mountain bikes to ride? Buying a new 29er and keeping the taurine as a winter bike would be good if you could afford that. It’s nice to have that option rather than ploughing your race bike through endless mud for 4 months. Plus you won’t get the value price for the bike – doubt there’s many folk in the market for a 26” race bike.

Sell it to me if you like. Doesn’t sound like it’s worth more than £350 with the ropey headshock though… 😉

I was going to suggest the F29 mentioned above. Currently a fair bit cheaper from Evans
