Who is buying 26″ completes or frames at the moment?

I’m going to be selling my 26″ in the near future. Its a nice build, I will be removing some choice bits from it to go to other bikes (ie wheels reverb and brakes). The problem is them do I put other wheels and brakes etc back on to it and sell it as complete or split it and sell what I can?

Is there a market for a complete 26″? I know price would have to be realistic (unlike some of the stuff you see on PB) and if it is reasonable do you think people are actually looking for this stuff?

If I split think the forks and possible the wheels will sell, plus drive train bits and finishing kit are universal but can be a pain to shift. Not sure about a full suss 26″ frame though.

Who has had luck recently in selling on their stuff?

Someone will buy it if you put it on ebay etc. You won’t get anything like you think its worth though

Sold a 26in frame last month.

Definitely a buyers’ market but I was lucky my Orange Patriot hadn’t really been superseded by anything in the range so got a decent price.

I dunno if either splitting or selling whole is clearly better – just depends if the right buyer is out there.

Looking at buying another 26in frame now.

I’m sort of in the market so have been casually looking and there are some cheap bikes out there as frames and complete bikes. I think you’ll get more for the parts as there are are loads of us 26″ luddites out there buying bits to keep things going but the frame will be tricky.

I had a quick look the other day as I’ve got a frame sitting in the garage that I’m tempted to build up as a cheap winter hack. Obviously lower end 26″ is dirt cheap but the mid and high level 26″ stuff doesn’t seem too much cheaper than the equivalent 650B stuff on the second hand market.

Not sure what this means, I’m not too bothered if truth be told. I’ve come to the realisation that my 26″ Five is just going to get ridden into the ground now as I’d rather spend £4k on other things than another Five with marginally bigger wheels.

I agree with it being a buyers market.

I am only keeping the good bits for other bikes as I know they are worth more to me than the price I’d get for them.

I suppose I have to offer it up for sale and see what happens. I think I will split it though, probably easier and more of a market.

I am under no illusions that I get no money for it!

Parts seem to be doing well now. Good 26″ forks are making decent money and I’ve just sold a frame at a decent price.

A mate of mine has just bought a 26″ Sesh Enduro, He definately got a bargain, the seller wanted a 650B and was desperate to sell, i think right now is a good time to buy any bike, Come the spring and when the TDY comes through then demand will increase.

There are buyers who ONLY want 26″ though, he could have bought 650B Himself but couldnt see the point.

I had a brief attempt at splitting and selling my 26″ Five last year. I was trying to sell: Frame, Pike Forks, Float Forks and Hope/Flow wheels. The Pikes went straight away, but there wasn’t much interest in anything else. OK, I didn’t try that hard, but I wasn’t exactly inundated with offers.

Of course anything will sell if the price is right, but I suspect that the price for these items has now dropped low enough that I’d probably rather just keep them and enjoy them myself.

I think splitting might be better option. There are plenty of people still riding 26″ bikes that might want the odd component to keep their bike running.

E.g. maybe someone had a crash and dented their frame, doesn’t have a lot of money so looking for just a frame to keep going with existing stuff, rather than move to a different wheel size and get frame, forks, wheels and tyres …

Things like the mech and shifters will work regardless of wheel size so you open yourself up to more people by splitting those.

If I can get around the 500 mark for frame fork and wheels then I would be happy. The bike I want isn’t exactly super pricey but anything towards it is a bonus!

I suppose if I do manage to sell stuff like cranks, stem and bars etc then it will all add up!

The drive train has seen better days so that would be kept!

@woodster – out of interest, where did you sell the forks? I’ve got a set of Fox Float 36’s to get rid of.

It’s really simple take good photos, write a good description and stick it ion Ebay with a 1p starting price. Job done.

I thought this thread would be about a car boot style event – aimed exclusively at 26″ bikes.. 😐

Hope hoops are stilling doing decent money on eBay.

I’m just building a bike up out of a new 26″ frame and all my decent bits. Things are changing too fast for my liking so I’m out till it settles down.

Hope wheels do seem to hold a bit of value. I am keeping them and putting them on my DH bike. I do agree that things are changing a lot, however I cannot see it slowing down much in the near future. Plus I really fancy a change!

I’ve got a Yeti ASR5 frame I should sell, but I’m half tempted to hold onto it for a few years, old Yetis in decent nick seem to have their fans.

I keep toying with the idea of going to 650b and swap the parts over as I have some decent kit.

This would amount to frame, forks and wheels. Priced up buying something 2nd hand the lost based on the frame I am after would mean shelling out around £1500 which frankly doesn’t really justify it for me.

I will stick to my 26″ Enduro and if it ever breaks then will think about swapping, until then long live 26″ frames!!

Bought my lad a 26″ frame for Xmas, as I had a set of forks and wheels to build it up with.

There is still a market for parts, decent wheels etc are not cheap second hand.

I broke my Prophet over Christmas, threaded the BB, I’d just bought some forks for it but not fiited them. If hadn’t I’d probably have got a new bike.

I managed to get a Prophet frame off here which is lot nicer than mine plus I now have a spare swing arm and shock. It’s in the bike shop getting a thorough servicing.

It’s 1×10, has a 150mm bolt through forks, Hope hoops and has a dropper post and it’s slack and long – I could spend 3500 quid to get slightly bigger wheels and a bolt through rear end.

I now intend to keep it for a long time as it certainly more capable than me. I’m sure there will be a market for second hand bits for people keep their frames going and people looking for frames to keep their bits going.

I think Prophet BB’s are known for this, my mate got his fixed, possibly by BETD.

He now rides a Pitch but refuses to sell the Prophet frame. He tested a new Stumpy at Stainburn at the weekend and said it felt pretty similar to his Pitch but would cost an extra £3000

From what I’m seeing the market if anything is picking up!

When 650b become eveything it seemed that you couldn’t give away 26″ stuff, but it seems the shock factor has gone now. my current bike sort of evolved out of my last one about 12-18 months ago.

I bought nearly new, really nice forks for £180 that cost the seller £550 6 months before and that was discounted from £750rrp. The cheapest ones on eBay now are £250 and aren’t in as good nick as mine now, certainly not as good as when I bought them.

My frame cost me £400, admittedly it’s a bit battered, but the few that come up for sale now and again are always more than that.

My wheels cost me £100 for some ex-demo Mavic EN-521 rims on Superstar hubs, they’re not flash, but they’re tough and stiff, people seem to be asking £40ish for fronts and £60 for rears, what I paid for them 18 months ago when they were new’ minus a few dirty thumb prints.

Yes there’s always a gulf between asking price and what they sell for, but when I swap my bike in a few months it looks at least like I’ll get roughly what I paid for the 26″ specific bits – the rest ironically was all bought new and will be pennies.

Well currently I’m buying up a few 26″ bikes to split and re sell as above its a buyers market. I’m looking at a 650b 324 in large as I’m 6″4 and I look like I’ve given birth to a 26″ bike even a large.

Picked up a 224 evo with world cups and sun wheels rf cranks etc all top parts marked up at 800 ended up paying 525 cash on collection.

I’m more downhill rigs as that’s what I ride but on way to collect a orange msisle now. Again for a bargain price but the 650b bikes are holding fast and prices firm.

I’m buying and selling to raise the money to get my 650b as I need a bigger/longer bike but of all the lads I ride with they all run 26″ as the parts are dirt cheap and do the job for them fine.

My missus’s Prophet stripped its BB shell. Argos Cycles in Bristol fixed it by bonding in an insert. Cost the best part of £100 but it’s got to be better than skipping a perfectly serviceable frame.

I think a lot of people snap up cheap bikes and split them.

I worked in a shop and one of the manager’s was a dodgy so and so – he’d offer people a bit more than the shop would on trade ins, pay cash and split the bike on eBay. He did OK out of it too.

Seems to be a lot of cheap 26 inch stuff about.

I just got a pair of not far off mint Hope Pro2/ex721 wheels with tyres for £110 delivered.

The guy I got them off ended up selling his 2 year old Orange 5 frame/Kashima shock for £350 – granted it was a 20 inch frame but seems really cheap to me.

I think I saw that one up for sale. Neon orange right? If so, I’ve got pretty much the identical frame sitting in my shed and at that price that’s precisely where it will stay 🙂 Actually, forget that. At that price, I think I’ll just build the damn thing up again and enjoy it 😀

I’m surprised that a Charlie the bike monger type get up hasn’t started specialising in 26″ers and components only. There does still appear to be demand for higher end forks and wheels etc. I have just about come to the end of my “back of the shed” components stock. My latest bike has been built with 11year old wheels – can’t fault beyondmountainbikes wheel building though!
