i ‘had’ a pair and they were terrible……very interesting concept/material but just didn’t work for me.

    ……incidentally i didn’t pay for them!

Because the chamois is bespoke and ‘designed to complement the male form’. What do they do, come around and take measurements? 😯

they will be on sale soon enough. I recently scored some 190quid castelli for 99quid.

260 quid for the Rapha Shadow bibs.

Probably little point going into the pricing behind “boutique” brands though. Probably been done a gazillion times here on various “how much?!!” threads.

If only they made bespoke shoulder chips or hair shirts, eh, Rusty?

I get my chips from Decathlon, Flashy.
    😉

    It’s true though.

No one needs to spend that much. It’s purely a device for people to show off.

    Surely trolling now 🙂

Same could be claimed about any luxury brand purchase where cheaper alternatives are available.

No one needs to buy anything in Rusty’s utopia!
You simply join the queue for your very own state approved bibs.

After you’ve queued for state approved food, that is.

    Not all.

There’s a tipping point where spending more money does not buy increased beauty and functionality, but merely highlights the lack of taste and class of the owner.

They’re just black bibshorts. How would anyone know?

All for quality gear can understand why people would want it but if I paid over £200 quid for bibs I can honestly say my wife would kick my head in.

Other people who spend £250 on a set of bibs will know.
    The people who matter.

We could also consider the possibility that whilst rather extravagant, they may just actually be that good.
I never really had a problem with £40 shorts until I tried a £60 pair. And thought £60 shorts were awesome until I tried £100 pair. Can’t see me ever spending £200 on shorts, but just maybe if I did i’d never look back.

But very few people would know they were Ashmei shorts that cost £235 so fairly useless as an ostentatious purchase. I’d rather have assos anyway.

Are they lighter than normal bibs? if so, bound to improve overall speed, marginal gains and all

Well, lycra bib shorts are a vulgar display of something but it’s not wealth 🙂

i bought some of the Rapha Shadow ones (and the jersey), ok I’m shaped like a lumpy bag of spuds, but the fit was terrible, tight in all the wrong places, but i could get my hand up the front of the thigh, very odd fit

    Ashmei suck balls.

Merino wool is great, but for a running vest? Don’t be so daft.

Also they cancelled a marathon they organised a few weeks out that I was going to win (well, maybe… 😆 ).

dirtyrider… cut for the classics riders, I think you need thighs like Stannard for them to fit properly.

How much are Asos bibs these days? I’ve got two pairs that must be 8 or so years old and are still going strong…

My two pairs of F.I.13s are 11 and 14 years old I think. Milles a similar age. One pair only decent for under tights/other shorts after a big crash in 2007, but doing stellar duty in that role still. The other pair fading a bit now, but I don’t think they owe me anything!

    Campionissimo S7s are £285 retail.

One set of mine have been back to Switzerland for repair after a crash, too.

This is just like a hi-fi enthusiast thread; law of diminishing returns, especially when very good bibs in plain black can be bought from numerous retailers for c.£50

Price counts for nothing if the pad doesn’t fit your backside

Even if you had the money-why?

Exactly. A weeks wages on a piece of spandex. You’d be best off removing the logos, just incase anyone you know looks up the price on the internet. You’ve got to ask the question as to whether these people that buy Rapha: are they fit for purpose?

But for some people it’s less than a days pay and if they are better performers than Aldi specials and last a long time then it’s not a purchase that’s filled with guilt or post purchase rationalisation and analysis.
It’s just a nice pair of shorts.
Other shorts to suit your needs, desires and sensibilities are available.

    I’m XXXL Castelli and yes.

I also get better value from event fees because it takes me longer to finish
