In the seasons i played the teams and league I played in (Kent) was mostly builders, painters, and other working class folk.
Of course plenty of working class people do play, but as said it’s mostly the posh schools that play it, and your local builders are hardly likely to end up playing for England. I think there will have been very very few public schoolboys with Welsh caps.
Re Welsh schools, I think it’s the main sport for most of them. The top rugby schools are state schools afaik, and it’s a small country so most people probably know someone who went to one of them, quite possibly with some famous player. Or several.
