Is a service and seal swap easy enough to do on these and can you even still get a service kit for them?

Yep seal kits etc still available, it can be done yourself but it’s only bike parts I don’t do myself for fear of bodging it……not too expensive on the Bombers but my more expensive forks I’d cry 😆
LBS did mine for reasonable sum.

Yes, easy enough. Looks like CRC still do seal kits, or you could try EnduroForkSeals if you fancy something different.

    Are any specialist tools needed?

I’ve not worked on the 55R forks, only the 55 RC3 Ti, but you’ll probably need a thin-walled 12mm hex socket (for footnut removal) – you can grind down a standard one to fit, a few small allen keys (1,5, 2mm), a 24mm hex socket for top cap removal, preferably with the end ground square and possibly (I’m not sure about this for your forks) a Shimano cassette locknut tool (for the RH top cap).
Plus something to press the new seals in (I used some PVC pipe of the right diameter) and a flat bladed screwdriver to remove the old seals.

This video is for the 44 but you might find it useful –

Thinking about it, both your footnuts might be allen bolts, as you won’t have the compression adjustment there that the CR and RC3 have.

    *edit* Apparently they’re both 15mm.

    I’ll email you some info.
