My mate….got frame in swap for chainset and happens to have almost brand new 80mm travel Drakes.

Recognise the RH came with 100mm travel, but…..to avoid buying new forks wondered if the Drakes would work.

He will try, but anyone any experience?

Alternative is he will sell the Drakes, transfer some 120mm Foxes to the RH and buy some 130 or 140mm Rev’s for his new Nickel which currently has the Foxes

Well it’s normally assumed that 20mm or so difference in axle to crown length, will decrease the headangle by a degree, so it’d be steeper (more XC) feeling & lower the BB.
It’ll happily take the fork, and ride fine, it’s just whether your m8 will like the feel of it.
The 120mm Fox will be doing the same but in the other way…

Also might be worth dropping a mail to Manitou (or hotlines, their UK distro), to see how difficult it is to change the travel on the forks.

BUT it’ll be worth doing short term, and then he can decide as to whether he like it or need’s to upgrade his Nickel.
