  • £2000 ish to spend – what bike?

    Right, in a few weeks I will have paid off my student loan so I figure I’ll have enough dosh spare to get a new bike for about £2000 on 0% finance (give or take a couple of hundred).

    What to get?

    I really wanted a Santa Cruz Nickel, but they’ve stopped selling them. Wouldn’t mind an Orange Five S or a Lapierre Zesty 314 (still a few 2012 models around on offer) or a Specialized Camber…

    Any suggestions?

    Five s is £2500….but it’s been upgraded

    Go on Canyon website and choose whatever fits your style of riding for your budget.

    It must be great being a midget or a giant – loads of great deals! Unfortunately I am smack bang in medium territory!

    I am currently riding a Specialized Hardrock, but I am riding places like Swinley, Lordswood, QECP and 80mm suspension and rim brakes just… well… suck!

    Zesty’s are very good bikes, vary capable. Seen them on rides from xc, Surrey Hills and Alps, bike can handle all that. Supposedly 2013 models are a further step forward

    Ghost AMR 7500 is £2300 RRP, but can often be found for £2k.

    Got 10/10 in MBR not long ago, beating Specialized, Trek, Lapierre etc!

    Check out Hargroves sale. They do 0% and a local shop so you can test ride.

    I demo’ed the Nickel and loved it which is why it was my first choice – also road an Orange Five that day – thanks for the link i’ll check it out.

    You’ve got £2000 to spend but you don’t know what to spend it on?

    I’m not looking for a bike, but Hargroves have an interesting selection, I been browsing the ‘Dales and Speshs..

    By the way, if you phone your local shop (mine’s Fareham), they’ll get the bike in and you can check it out before you buy.

    I am quite tempted by the Camber. I even reckon I’d be plenty happy with the Comp and a few hundred notes left over in my back pocket (or in the bank)
    Only trouble is Hargroves don’t do 0% on sale bikes and next years models are all 29ers which I am not sure about. I’ve ridden a 29″ Santa Cruz Tallboy and found it a bit weird.

    Ridden Lapierre’s for a few years now. Had a Zesty 314 in 2008 and now have a Spicy 516 2011. Love them to bits. Gonna go back to a Zesty 314 for next year and stick all my upgraded bits on it. Go anywhere on them. Great fun to ride and they push you harder.

    I got my Spicy from BikeActive on 18 months 0% finance. Rob there was most helpful.

    I’d wait a month or two for the 2013 range though.

    I’ve just got the camber elite 2012(version down) and it **** rocks 😀 It’s like i’ve just gone from a Ford KA to a BMW 3 series lol

    Honest opinion…build an Inbred/456, with some decent (S/H) forks, & upgrade as funds come along. Get into the habit of saving up for stuff. £2k can buy you a nice car.

    As badllama mentioned, Camber Expert. Had mine just over a week and love it.

    There are good deals on them to leave a bag of change. For eg.

    I’d probably go for this. Lot of bike for the money. Might be ‘too much bike’ depending on where you live.
