    Any resemblance to Abigail’s Party?

PS you need to be old to answer that one. 😉

Well thanks for all your help Guys, it really was as superb night. I’ve been out riding with my mates (great day for it) and we set off early and even though I had quite a lot to drink last night for some reason I felt fine, which I’m slightly unsure about…

    Highlights:
Attitude. Such a simple thing that nobody really notices, but when folks get into the mood for a good giggle of an evening things just fit into place. And so they did.
Rubber Plants. One of the crowd brought round a rubber plant, no not Robert but rubber. it is about 6ft tall and has 5 stalks and looks like the day of the triffids ! It’s still here, so if you see Fellie tell he to collect it sharpish 😆
Dining crockery. We shouted out for this stuff from our respective parents and MrsBoys came up trumps. Being from Yorkshire they’ve never thrown anything away and lo and behold all sorts of tableware came out of boxes and TBH it was a struggle to decide what to use form the vast array, dear God I’m so glad I chuck stuff away, but on this occasion happy they kept it.. 😆
Music. Never underestimate the quality of Music required. As soon as Alvin Stardust and Garry Glitter came on my mates got all sniffy and in great protest asked I turn it off. I replaced that crap with “The Song Remains The Same” and they happily nodded along to that track until “Dazed and Confused” came on when wails of “oh what shite” ensued until “Whole lotta love” blasted through and nodding heads returned. After that we had blast from 70’s Disco and Funk and Soul and cheesy Pop and that took us through to the small hours. I recommend you seek out your guests tastes before choosing Your track listing. Thankfully I know my lot and the Disco/Funk/Soul ensemble went down perfectly. As for the sound quality I used my MacAir speakers only and put two tin cans beside the speakers to amplify the tinny trash as I was trying to re-create a tape deck player.. went down really well as it happens.. 😆
Dressing Up. Well you really do have to make an effort. I chose a rather tight fitting flares/safari jacket two piece and I couldn’t find any wedges shoes so ended up in white plimsols.. Bloody hilarious 😆 A word of caution.. well two actually.. Charity shops no longer sell 70’s gear, clearly times have moved on somewhat and your best efforts will be met with 90’s stuff at best.. and the second thing.. fake hair.. I got hold of some from a make up shop and some latex to stick my sideburns on.. and my tash’ be careful with the latex 😆 it’s a sod to get off 😕 The Girls turn out very sexy, clearly I have a thing for see through cheesecloth blouses and kaftans and 70’s Disco Queens tight fitting short shorts.. This I never knew and shall be seeking this fetish out in more detail 8)
Food. Clearly this is what most folk turn up and chat about and you lot came up with some great suggestions.. I mentioned our menu up there ^^ and stuck to it. It went down a treat, proper scoffed and enjoyed. Particular fave was the Prawn Cocktail starter (so easy to make BTW). As for the rest it too went down really well and I made some effort to find sweets from the 70’s and those were particular favourites all except the Frazzles.. they hated them 😆 Angel Delight went down well too, but the flavour was slightly odd.. which means 40 odd years later Mans tastebuds must have changed dramatically because everyone seemed to rave about Butterscotch Angel Delight.. “back in the day”
Drinks. Couldn’t find any Mateus Rose so pretty much stuck with Lambrusco, which I might add was totally disgusting. Had I not bought 6 bottles of the sickly sweet fuzzy concoction I probably would have been stuck with some decent plonk, but no I stuck rigidly to what was around at the time and everyone backed me up by downing the rose’ plonk quickly and then verbalising quite how utterly disgusting it really is to this day.. Which I think set the tone for the evening on the whole (more later) Then Cinzano and R-Whites lemonade (quite nice) and then onto to some decent plonk out of the cellar which was totally called for. Snowballs made an entrance and they went down well too.. Cherries on sticks were vile too but I think I must have bought the “extra sweet” variety 😛
Conversation. I made a theme, folks had to look up a topic and do a bit of research on the era and then recite that at the table when “enduring” dinner, not supper but Dinner (as it was called back then) So we had some great long chats about Politics/Strikes/Cars/Music/Fashion/Politics and more Politics/Interest Rates/Price of Petrol/HiFi’s/TV Programmes etc… This was excellent, all my mates chose wisely and we had some heated debates on Socialism and proper piss takes bounded around the table. I suggest if you are doing something similar it’s not a bad way of trying to relive an era when in our reality no one actually knows/remembers what it was like.. I guess lots of phone conversations with Parents went on behind closed doors 😆 I had some TV programmes on the Mac too whilst we were eating, always a favourite Morecambe and Wise but Reggie Perrin, Sweeny, Butterflies and such we sort of watched in the background. But most knew the programmes so I chose some old Gerry Anderson cartoons and others like Joe90, Thunderbirds, Mary Mungo and Midge, Hectors house, Bagpuss and a surprising favourite Marine Boy… and such like..
Twister. Don’t play this sober. I saw one of my ‘girl’ friends knockers through her cheesecloth blouse and blinking ek’ 😯 Also the thing you manoeuvre on is shiny and slippy and you fall over quite a lot, certainly after lots of plonk. I now have a rather imprinted image of a huge boob dangling in front of my eyes in a sort of opaic hue…

It was hilarious. I have to say that don’t i but it was. I’m ending with a thought.. If you do something like this go over the top, it make such a difference, even to the tiniest detail.. if you can it’s well worth it.

Thanks again.. Next time it’s the 90’s at my mates and clearly I’ll be asking all the Manchester lot about baggy white T-Shirts and the Stone Roses.

Who in their right mind hates Frazzles?!

Should have offered them up between two slices of buttered Mother’s Pride. 🙂

I reckon he had a cheap substitute for Frazzles.

I had butterscotch angel delight a few years back. It tasted exactly the same was rather nice, sickly though. It give me an instant flashback to the Oxley twins 8th birthday party.
