    Hi,

    I’m after a full sus for XC/trail, any views?

    A bit about me; 6ft 3in, price sensitive/allergic 🙂 and not bothered what people think about me so no brands are off limits. I don’t have much experience/time to work on bikes. I had a cheap 29er and that’s put me off. I’ve got a nice-ish 27.5 hard tail so the new bike can be fairly focused on trail centre stuff. Off to the alps in summer.

    What do people recommend? I have the Boardman Pro and the Calibre Bossnut in my crosshairs – any views on either? The latter didn’t look inspiring but I could throw the savings at some nicer bits.

    He’ll need an XL, which might rule out the Boardman as well.

    I’m not recommending it, I don’t have one or know anyone that does, but seems a good price.

    Thanks both. That was my concern, that the Boardman only going up to 19in won’t be big enough.

    Liking the look of the spec on the Jekyll, more so than the Anthem but proves there’s good options out there.

    Hmm, just found an encouraging thread on the forum with a similar question from a 6 footer. As it’s just for trail centres I wonder if I’d get away with it?!?

    GX 1×11, good fork, decent wheels and tyres and a basic dropper to boot.

    They get good reviews and the frames are better geometry than many rivals (ie. a decent length).

    Plus you can get another 10% off with the British Cycling members discount.

    Hi Dan,

    I second thegreatape. I picked up a Bird Aeris 10 (or Aeris 3 as they were called last year). My main use is trail due to where I live but it has completely changed the way I handle descents – for the better I hope but I’ll find that out next month in the Alps. The Aeris 10’s drivetrain spec is Deore, so totally solid, and the X-fusion bouncy bits have been fine so far. You also get Bird’s amazing back up; believe me, not having a shop to visit is no problem support-wise.

    Had no idea about them, they’re only 30mins from where I live so definitely will give them a go. Thanks.

    Cheers guys n gals, that’s some seriously tempting choices. I’m going to need to do a spreadsheet to line all these up!

    If they’re 30mins away then you’ve got direct access to their factory, let alone a LBS! Tests are free (I’m doing another for a Zero TR on the 31st March) and you’d be picking up an award-winning bike for peanuts (relative, I bought lowest spec for a reason too :D). Spreadsheet away but if the Aeris suits you…

I’m not a very good rider and have never noticed it but none of the seriously skilled people on the Bird FB group have found it a problem either as far as I’m aware. Apparently it stems from an early test of a prototype (subsequently modified) but the journos keep repeating it to get the wordcount up or something!

    Cheers all, I had a ride on the Aeris at lunch yesterday and genuinely enjoyed it. I like the idea of supporting British bike building and being a local firm is a big bonus! I really liked the set-up that the guys have worked hard to develop so I think I’m going to find the extra money and then buy from them.

    On the basis I haven’t a clue i’m going to start another thread asking what people would go for in the options – love how much customisation there is, it’s like freakin’ Christmas! 🙂
