That was an ok film, happy I watched it, probably wouldn't watch it again, won't be buying a new knife due to it!

The bit about leaving his Swiss Army knife but having to use a Leatherman didn't ring quite true, I've got both and the saw knife on my Leatherman nearly takes my arm off every time I open it. It would be easily capable of sawing through flesh, assuming it was still intact, maybe I missed the part where he broke it.

If you watch the film properly though, he says it's a cheap crappy Chinese copy of a Leatherman and a very well used one at that. And besides, he's been chipping away at a lump of sandstone for 2 days with it!
My Gerber multitool (basically the same) is phenomenally sharp, fantastic bit of kit.

i got shouted at by my good lady and her friend for pointing out that the tyres he had on his bike weren't available in 2003, when it was set...
good film though

I didn't get why he used the knife blade to hack at the rock instead of one of the other tools that aren't going to be of use when you realise you can't carve a boulder with a pocket tool...

Watched it, and it is quite good.
However if you want a happier ending - watch it backwards and it is a beautiful story of a man being reunited with his missing arm.

Manky description of it here.... also an annoying american commentator talking over the top.

Am a Boyle fan though, and thought that as a piece of film-making it's very VERY good. For Boyle and James Franco between them to make a film which is pretty much one man in one place for it's entire length and still make it engaging and watchable demonstrates huge amounts of creative talent.
+1
since when was a film ever better than the book?
films are for making special mind pictures.

I find people comparing films to books to be somewhat silly. They're two different formats, two different experiences and they're never going to be the same. If you found one great the other will clealy never be as good as the first time you saw the story, that goes for all films. Give over with the "I read books" nonsense, we all know you don't

Brilliant geekery. I salute you!
