    Hi,

Forgive the possibly stupid question, but I can’t get this straight in my head…

Just bought some new road wheels (9/10/11 Speed Fulcrums 5s). I run a 9 speed cassette. The wheels came with a shim.

    So:
    1. Presume the shim goes on the end next to the smallest cog?
    2. Will I need to realign my rear mech or should the indexing still be spot on?

    Thanks.

    Stu.

Shim goes behind cassette. Behind biggest sprocket.

Thanks Brant. Should the indexing be there or there abouts then with possible minor tweaks?

Indexing is quite fine. So hard to say. But not a million miles off.

Sorry to complicate things, and I maybe wrong. But is the shim not for converting to allow a 10speed cassette to be run on an 11 speed hub?

I believe that: 10 Speed is slightly narrower than 11. 10 is also slightly narrower than 9. But I don’t know the relationship of 9 cassettes to 11 speed cassettes.

Did it come with 2 shims or just the one?

Like I said though, I maybe wrong.

You will need just the 1.85mm shim to run a 9 speed cassette. Brant is right.

If you run a 10 speed cassette on an 11 speed hub you run two spacers. There is a narrow one that comes with 10 speed cassette to make it the same width as a 9 speed cassette and a wide one that comes with the wheels.

    Thanks Mister P, that’s clear.
