Anyone know if i could use an 11 speed shimano MTB cassette and rear mech with road 11 speed shifters? I know the cassette on the freehub is different but is it just as wide? TIA

Shimano road and MTB 11 speed have different cable pull. For what it’s worth, depending on the cassette you want you might be able to coax the roadie mech to do it, my 10speed road set up is 1x with an 11-36 mtb cassette and it works.

Problem solvers do a travel agent to make it work but I have no idea how effective it it. If you do get it working let us know, I’d like to do the same!

I want to use an XT 11Sp rear mech and 11 – 40 cassette with 685 road STI’s I think i’ll be able to get it to work somehow.

shifter and mech should match from same family (road or mtn)

cassette can be from road or mtn if the mech can cope with capacity

some of the pro road teams use mtn cassettes on certain alpine climb stages to get the really low gears
