Earlier today, while supervising a DofE exped, I watched one of my charges ignore the place and technique for crossing a river.

Instead of a pair or three, supporting each other, at the wide yet shallow section, he leapt into a deep section alone, stumbled and dived headlong into the water with heavy pack ensuring he was fully submerged.

My sides were aching from laughter, once I made sure he was out safe. I’m still laughing about it now….

What else has made you laugh for a long time?

My wife, who was in Intensive care 5 days ago, said tonight, ‘& don’t forget to bring my pink hoodie in tomorrow’. 😆

You can’t beat a good bit of slapstick, laughing till it hurts. I wish I was one of those people who’s easily amused as I rarely get to laugh so hard.

I often watch these if I need a chuckle though.

This was probably the best comedy of last year.

My gf is a documentary film maker and often makes non broadcast work for charities, especially in the social care sector.

She filmed an interview with a retired couple – a wife giving a very eloquent and touching account of care for her husband living with dementia. She was a one take wonder – amazing. The shot was beautifully composed, the way they sat together seemed to physically describe the distance that was growing between them as his sense of self receded. It was heart breaking and lovely in equal measures.

As she finishes speaking theres a beat of silence where you have a moment to digest what she said. Her husband casually and innocently crashes this silence with with a completely unexpected, window rattling bark of a belch. He’s wearing a lapel mic so my GF gets both barrels in her ear phones and you see the flinch as a jolt in the shot.

We spent a whole day in front of the edit trying and trying find a way to cut the ending to lose the belch and the jolt without seeming to snap away from the shot to early. We must have heard the belch hundreds and hundreds of times and it was futile – we just couldn’t use the whole thing. The comedy of the belch wore off pretty quickly but the futility of us trying and trying to remedy it just got funnier and funnier.

But today at work, we were watching the rushes of a promotional video we’re making. It’s a fine collection of little pieces to camera. One of the lecturers is clearly off his tits and another is sedated, one of the male students inexplicably has really prominant boobs, another doesn’t know how to sit on a chair, I look like a bad computer game animation, or “like the world’s shittest sex doll” as someone else put it, some of the lines with hindsight have no connection to the actual subject matter… But the bit that ended me was a colleague who I said looked like a half empty sack of potatoes, being immediately followed by a colleague who looks like one of the missing potatoes. I couldn’t stop myself saying it out loud, now potato hates me.

I really hope we approve it so I can share it, it’s quite a lot like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bnanI9jXps

Up until that point I thought he’d died.

My dad spent the last couple of years of his life in a nursing home. The other inmates were variously addled. One of the old dears had a dementia-related swearing issue.

One day we were visiting, we heard an outburst, “oh f*** it!”

The carer went over and very gently said to her, “now then Ethel, what did we agree we weren’t going to say?”

    “F***,” replied Ethel.

“And what did we say we were going to say instead?”

    “Teddy bears,” said Ethel.

    Five minutes later,

    “Oh, f***ing teddy bears!”

    That horse is awesome!

One of the things that got me laughing for far longer than I really should have done was ripping out a fart so terrible that it made my ex-wife retch and run for the toilet. Even I thought it smelled bad, but I don’t think laughing about it helped her much.

    Yes, ex-wife. I’m obviously not a keeper

I think we must have replayed this a hundred times and it was still side splitting funny. You can (almost) hear the concern in Mikes voice.

Gear cable caught the lock-down lever on the forks on that drop at the start of the clip then I just rode straight into the rock expecting the suspension to do it’s thing.
