  • 11-23 cassette from a 11-25 and 12-23 mash up…?

Have an 11-25 and a 12-23. Can I combine the cassettes to make an 11-23 and save me buying one?

Had a look here and it does look like from 17t up it’s different parts between the 11-23 and 12-23 cassettes, which sort of implies there may be an issue with swapping them. Assume this is different placement of shift ramps and disengagement thingies due to the loss of the 18t sprocket. Will I die a horrible death if I try it?

why do you need 11-23 ? for a tt rig? the easy answer would be to sacrifice just the 12 and replace it with just the 11

Yup for TT. Fine tuning. Ideally want 11 to 17 in 1T increments.

I did something similar for a larger range cassette, nothing I really notices in shifting performance

Yes of course. Do you need really the 11? I race 11-23 on a compact 50/34. Pushing an 11 on anything other then downhill sections with more than a 50 must be hard work. Shifting won’t be affected.

11-25 is why I’ve now gone to 11 speed on a compact for the non-race bike.

Usually run a 55t and 12-23 on the TT bike and if I get a decent tailwind I can be spinning 55/12. Want to try running a 53t and just a bit worried about 53/12 leaving me a gear short (with 55/12 being somewhere just between 53/12 and 53/11.)

I may just get a 11-23 and save myself a bit of worry!

    Yes it’s horrid 😀
