Following a bike fit, I need to change the cranks on mrs_m’s bike to something shorter. Her bike is currently running a Shimano 10 speed setup, but most of the cranks I can find are now 11 speed. Has anyone run a 10 speed drivetrain on 11 speed cranks, and was it OK, or do I need to look at a full 11 speed upgrade?

I ran 9 speed cranks on an 8 speed chain
Problem is the 11 speed chain is smaller so it will, I assume.

    1. Work
    2. Wear Quicker
    3. Possibly be a little noisy

There were some 170mm 2×10 XT cranks in the CRC clearance – about 60 quid with a code.

It’ll be absolutely fine. No reason for extra wear or noise whatsoever.

I ran 10 speed cranks on a 9-speed setup for a while. No issues at all.

I’ve previously run 8sp cranks on a 10sp and also run 10sp cranks on an 8sp bike.

    No issues for either setup.

So I assume you will have no problems.

11 speed slx crank and the rest of the drive train is 10 speed here, zero issues.

I am running 10speed rings with 11 speed transmission.
    No problems whatsoever.
I guess the tolerances between the two are so minute.
