renton - where are you based? Anywhere near glasgow give me an email and I'll drop my diagnostics kit on it for you.

Without being able to reset the code theres no point waiting to see if it returns, often they're intermittent/wiring/connection related but you need to be able to clear it to be sure of that and you don't awnt to put many miles on it in that condition just in case it's one of the more serious faults and prolonged use may cause further damage.

As mentioned above, it could be any one off a number of problems.

The engine management light on my C-Max TDCI came on, & when diagnosed, it was the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) that needed recharging.

I had a very similar problem with my FOcus TDCi, engine management light coming on, loss of power, car grinding to a halt then starting after being left alone for 30 minutes.

Turned out to be the camshaft sensor, cost £25 to replace and minutes to fit.

This is a common problem.

Suspect the ECU detected an error of some sort and it went into spack mode. If it went off after shutting down, it could be intermittant.
You could always disconnect the battery which will clear and reset the ECU to its default settings, but this often wipes any fault codes as well (not to mention restting the stereo settings).
If you dont want to do that, then get thy ass down the ford stealership.

This is a WIDE open guess but the ECU might have defaulted to a factory 'safe' programme and your faults been stored in the ECU history.

I'd still get it taken in for diagnostics.

Do you want to be in the middle of a 100mile riding trip upto Scotland and suddenly the light comes on again as your engines been running to lean and fuel has detonated in your Cat etc?

Get it taken in to a Ford specialist!

I've seen an engine light come on 3 times- once on a MX5 due to removing the passenger seat, another for changing the stereo and blowing a fuse and finally for a faulty fuel/air sensor that could have led to the above scenario.

Return to Ford dealer for proper fault diagnosis, they can access the fault codes stored in the ECU. Then you'll know exactly what the issue is and can take things from there.

'Could be' lots of things!

The Mondeo is renowned for the EGR valve getting gummed up, mine was bad and caused hesitation (but not power loss) and it had only done 60k. Dealer will just replace it, it is an easy but messy job to unbolt it and clean it with clutch cleaner and a toothbrush

There is probably a CMAX owners forum somewhere, they are usually pretty good. If not, I bet its the same engine in the S-Max/Mondeo etc, I know there is a couple of good Ford Mondeo forums.

ok so i need some help!!
my cmax seems to running like a bit of a dog.

all day it has been jerky as though its got fuel starvation or a missfire.

i was accelerating from traffic lights earlier and lost all power, as though the pedal wasnt connected at all.

when this happened i pulled over an turned the engine off and left it 30 secs nd turned it back on and it was fine , back to full power.

so i continued on my journey down the mway and as i pulled off at the junction i needed i slowed for the island at the top, seen it was clear and accelerated away in 3rd and this is when the eml came on the dash??

car still has full power , apart from being a little jerky and hesistant it runs fine .

the only other thing ive noticed is the mpg has dropped by some 15 mpg.

any ideas??

car is a 54 plate and has done 112000 miles

cheers

steve

The new Gobi has gone flatter and wider. - They lost the plot a little IMO. It used to be one of the few saddles about in a proper old-school humped shape without daft cut-outs, and it worked very well for many.

The spoon is a little flatter agin isn't it, so not really a fair comparison.

phew, lucky I rarely clean my bike. Got Gobi. It is thin/narrow, but seems pretty good so far and its long, so allows a good deal of moving around on it.

As far as I could work out, all the disintegrating Gobis were due to bike wash killing the glue. We had a load of them returned. I tried to make a point of asking whoever I could.

Anyway.. My tuppence worth:
Old Gobi: yes!
New Gobi: hmmm. not so much.
Spoon: not tried.

Got a spoon that I cannot get on with. Since got a Spec Phenom BG which is fine for 6 hours. Just got a new Gobi but only been on it once for a 3 hour spin and it seems fine - but it's physically narrow so may not suit your bones / butt.

I had a gobi which came apart fairly quickly, and it wasn't all that comfy. I like the speccy BG ones a lot but off road they also tend to fall apart pronto, so I got a spoon. A match made in heaven.

But then I didn't seem to get on with the Gobi shape, too domed, it put too much pressure on the parts between my sit bones. I have a couple of nisene's on my commuter and hack, and in comparison they're much comfier.

i have a fizik gobi which came with my bike and i think they are really over-rated.badly made to the point i had to glue mine back together and not that comfy after a couple of hours. the spoon is cheap and cheerful but if you want a better quality item the specialized bodyform are good as is the bontrager [ which is guaranteed comfortable or you can return it

Anyone ridden on both (obvioulsy not at the same time) how do they comapre. Currently have a spoon on the mtb, did have them on the cross and road bike as well. put ariones on the cross and road bike and find them much better, that may be due to the extra range of movement from the fizik. Just wondered if the gobi offers similar for the mtb. My suspicion is no as you are out of the saddle more anyway but would be interested to here comments

thanks
